Apple’s first
foldable iPhone may
arrive in late 2026, and early leaks suggest it could look like two iPhone Airs
fused together. The design
reportedly keeps the flat edges and titanium frame
Apple introduced with the
iPhone Air, but adds a flexible display inside.
When
folded, the phone may be about 9 to 9.5mm thick. Open it up, and it could slim
down to just 4.5mm. That’s thinner than most foldables today.
Bigger
Screens, Smaller Crease
The inner display is said to measure
7.8 inches with a nearly square layout. On the outside, a smaller 5.5-inch
screen will handle quick tasks.
Apple is also rumoured to be working on a hinge
system that spreads out stress more evenly, cutting down on the visible crease.
The hinge itself may combine titanium, stainless steel, and even liquid metal
for extra strength.
Built
for Durability
Durability has always been a weak
point for foldables, but Apple seems determined to change that. The strength of
Titanium has been proven in the
iPhone Air during stress tests.
Using it in a
foldable device won’t be a bad idea, as it will make the device strong enough
to resist bends and drops. Reports also suggest Apple is trying to make the
phone easier to repair than rivals.
The iPhone Air scored a seven out of ten
from iFixit, while Samsung’s and Google’s foldables only managed threes.
Matching even part of that standard would be impressive in this category.
Cameras
and Features
Leaked details point to four
cameras: two on the back, one on the cover screen, and another inside. Apple
may also skip Face ID in this model. Instead, the company could return to Touch
ID through a side button. That would save space and simplify the design.
A
High Price Tag
None of this will come cheap.
Analysts expect the
foldable iPhone to start at around $2000, with the top
model pushing closer to $2300. That puts it above Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 and
Google’s Pixel Fold, raising the pressure on Apple to deliver a product that
feels worth the premium.
Launch
Timeline
Production trials are expected to
begin in Taiwan before moving to India and other regions. The most likely
launch window is September 2026, though a slip into the last quarter of the
year is still possible.
If the leaks are accurate, Apple’s
foldable iPhone could set a new benchmark for design, durability, and thinness
in the foldable market.
