Google may soon have a new Fitbit tracker, and it looks like an interesting middle ground between a simple fitness band and a full smartwatch. The Fitbit Edge has now appeared in leaked images, showing a small oval display and a design that looks very different from the current Fitbit Air.
The device has not been officially announced yet. However, leaked marketing images reveal several details about what Google may be planning. The Edge is also expected to work with both Android and iPhone, which could make it more useful than Google's Pixel Watch for some users.

A small screen with useful features

Unlike the screenless Fitbit Air, the Edge has a small display that can show useful information at a glance. Leaked images show details such as the time, date, heart rate and step count, along with a shortcut for starting a workout.
The screen will not turn the Edge into a small Pixel Watch. It appears to be designed for quick tasks rather than a full smartwatch experience. Users should be able to see notifications and use a small selection of apps, including Google Maps, YouTube Music and Find My Phone.
That sounds like a good balance to me. A fitness tracker does not need a huge list of apps if the basic tools are easy to reach.

GPS and up to seven days of battery life

The Fitbit Edge is also expected to include built-in GPS, an altimeter and automatic activity recognition. That means users should be able to track outdoor workouts without relying completely on their phone.
Battery life could reach up to seven days, according to the leaked information. That would put it closer to a traditional fitness tracker than a smartwatch, which is exactly where I think this device makes the most sense.
The leaked design also shows a sensor area on the back and a quick-release system for changing the strap. The tracker is expected in Obsidian, Olive and Canyon colors, with some finishes matching Google's Pixel 11 Pro color options.

The iPhone support is important

One of the most interesting details is compatibility. The Fitbit Edge is reportedly designed to work with Android and iOS. That is a major difference from the Pixel Watch, which requires an Android phone.
For iPhone owners, this could make the Edge a much more attractive Google wearable. You would get a screen, GPS and basic smart features without having to switch to Android.

Could it replace the Fitbit Charge?

Google has not launched a new Fitbit Charge model since 2023, so there is clearly room for a new mid-range tracker.
The Edge looks like it could fill that gap. It offers more than the $99.99 Fitbit Air, but it does not try to compete directly with the Pixel Watch 5.
Pricing is not confirmed yet, but current reports point to $149–$199. That would put it in an interesting spot between Fitbit's simpler tracker and Google's smartwatch range.
Google could reportedly launch the Fitbit Edge later this month, although there is no official date yet.
For me, this is probably the Fitbit product Google should have released sooner. A small screen, long battery life, GPS and iPhone support could make the Edge a much more practical everyday tracker than either a basic band or a full smartwatch.
