iQOO 16 is officially here: 8400mAh battery, 2K/165Hz display, and Snapdragon

Today in China, iQOO introduced the iQOO 16 model. According to the magazine iFanR, it is one of the few flagship phones targeting gaming while also serving as a showcase for this year's top Android configuration. Sales in China begin immediately following the evening launch, according to available information.

The display has retained its size and 2K resolution, but the refresh rate has increased from 144 to 165 Hz. The panel uses a new Samsung M16 material instead of M14 and 2K LEAD version 2.0 technology. Global peak brightness has risen from 2,600 to 2,800 nits, and local peak brightness from 6,000 to 10,000 nits. The 10,000-nit local peak brightness applies only to a limited portion of the display and should not be confused with full-screen brightness.

A new feature is the proprietary Q-flex touch technology. Instantaneous touch sampling rate has increased from 3,200 to 5,000 Hz, and multi-touch from 360 to 500 Hz. The manufacturer claims that touch optimization has moved beyond simply accelerating the chip to integrating directly with the gaming engine. However, independent response tests will show the true benefit.

The phone is powered by the 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, representing the sixth generation of Snapdragon's most powerful lineup, with a clock speed of up to 5.01 GHz, complemented by a new-generation Monster gaming engine. The proprietary Q4 gaming chip maintains a three-core architecture. According to the manufacturer, it delivers 15% higher performance, a 19% faster cache, and 19% higher AI performance.

Battery capacity has increased from 7,000 mAh in the iQOO 15 to 8,400 mAh, an increase of 20 percent. Charging remains at 100W wired and 40W wireless. The vapor chamber area has expanded from 8,000 mm² to 8,500 mm², a 6 percent increase, with the cooling gel area up by 41 percent and graphite layers up by 20 percent. Interestingly, this is not the largest battery within the brand; its sister model, the iQOO Neo 11 Ultra, offers 9,100 mAh.

The gaming experience extends beyond the display as well. A new virtual point light source technology can add a light source to games outside the actual scene image. An 8K gaming camera saves in-game moments. For streamers, features have been added including super-resolution and ray tracing during transmission, original-quality recording, simplified capture card setup, smart editing, and audio correction. In cooperation with Douyin, the phone suppresses noise caused by tapping on the screen.

The phone features a new square camera module designated as Tomorrow's Porthole. It offers three 50MP sensors, including a periscope telephoto lens. The phone comes in three colors: Chasing Light, Legend, and Racing Track. It will be available with up to 16 GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Thus, the iQOO 16 builds its hardware lineup primarily around its display, gaming performance, and battery capacity.
