iQOO 16 Will Offer an 8,400mAh Battery and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6

Autumn is approaching, and with it comes a new generation of gaming flagship phones. The iQOO 16, the upcoming flagship from a brand owned by Vivo, has received another technical rundown of its specifications from leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo. It came in the form of a challenge, with Digital Chat Station asking users to guess its price. A look at the hardware, however, suggests this will be one of the most ambitious gaming smartphones of the year.

At the heart of the iQOO 16 is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 (SM8975 Pro), Qualcomm's most powerful chip, built on a 2nm process. Alongside it works the Q4 gaming co-processor. This is iQOO's own chip, following on from the Q3 in the iQOO 15. According to available information, the Q4 is meant to support the main chip with gaming tasks and graphics processing. Geekbench spotted a prototype with 16GB of RAM, while Digital Chat Station is working with a configuration of 12GB and UFS 4.1 storage.

The display measures 6.85 inches and is a Samsung M16 2K LEAD panel with 2K resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate. Adaptive LTPO technology lets the refresh rate drop when content is static, saving energy. The LTPO panel also allows the refresh rate to change dynamically based on what's on screen, which can help reduce power consumption.

The battery holds 8,400mAh, which significantly exceeds the standard of current flagships. Wired charging reaches 100W, and wireless charging reaches 40W. The real charging speed, however, will only be shown by testing.

The camera system consists of three 50-megapixel sensors: a 1/1.3-inch main camera (f/1.68), an ultra-wide camera, and an IMX882 periscope telephoto lens with 3x zoom. The front camera is 32MP. The iQOO 16 also features a dual-axis vibration motor from the 091640 series, Master Dual Yang Pro symmetrical speakers, a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, and IP68/IP69 certification. Connectivity is provided by USB 3.2.

In China, the iQOO 16 will compete for customers looking for a powerful gaming phone, much like the upcoming OnePlus 16 and RedMagic 12 Pro+. The price for the Chinese market has not been announced. That was precisely the point of the Weibo post that accompanied the specifications with a "guess the price" question.
