OnePlus 16 Targets Gamers: 185 FPS and New Chips

The OnePlus 16 debuted at the Snapdragon Gaming Technology Awards. CEO Liu Baoyou confirmed the flagship phone relies on three main gaming pillars. The official launch is set for October 12.

If you hoped for a global release, note that OnePlus scaled back operations in the US and Europe this year. The company will not launch new products in those regions. However, OnePlus India operates as normal, so expect the OnePlus 16 in China and India.

According to leaker Ice Universe, the standout feature is native 185 FPS support for mobile games. This combines a 185Hz display with custom software optimization. OnePlus promises games will hit that full frame rate. Some titles get a 185 FPS mode for the first time, while others use new optimizations. Delta Force may get support later, though it is not confirmed yet. A system-wide 165Hz hardware refresh rate handles everything outside of games.

At its core sits the Wind Chaser Gaming Core (Fengchi) system. OnePlus states this kernel optimizes hardware and cuts gaming lag.

The phone also adds a proprietary "E-Sports Triple Chip" setup:

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro serves as the main processor, much like the setup in the OnePlus 15.

Leaker Digital Chat Station reports the phone uses a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED screen with a 1.5K resolution. The screen shifts refresh rates depending on use: up to 185 Hz for supported games, and 165 Hz for general tasks.
