Samsung may be planning its biggest software change in years. A new leak suggests the company is working on a major update that could replace One UI with a new system called Galaxy OS. The change could arrive with the Galaxy S28 series in 2028.
The project is still in its early stages, and Samsung has not confirmed any of these plans. According to leaker phonefuturist, the company is working with Google to bring AI deeper into its phones. The goal is to make AI part of the system itself, rather than a collection of separate tools.

A new name for Samsung's software?

The project is reportedly being discussed as either One UI 10 or Galaxy OS. The final name remains unclear, but the timing is interesting. One UI will be around ten years old by the time the Galaxy S28 series arrives, giving Samsung a good reason to rethink its software.
One UI has grown into a feature-rich Android interface, but it has also become more crowded over the years. Samsung now offers tools for writing, photo editing, translation and other AI tasks. A major redesign could bring these features together in a more natural way.
I think Samsung could benefit from a fresh start. One UI already does a lot, but adding more menus and AI tools is not always the best way to improve a phone. Making the software easier to use would be just as important as adding new features.

Google could play a bigger role in AI

The leak points to closer work between Samsung and Google. AI could become more deeply built into the operating system, helping users complete tasks without opening several apps.
There is also talk of paid services from outside companies. This could mean Samsung will offer some extra AI tools through partners, possibly for an additional fee. However, the leak does not explain which services might cost money or how the system would work.
That raises an important question for Galaxy owners: which AI features will remain free? Samsung has continued to expand Galaxy AI, but users may be less happy if useful tools move behind a subscription.

The Galaxy S28 could be the turning point

The Galaxy S28 series is expected to arrive in 2028, which gives Samsung plenty of time to change its plans. For now, neither Galaxy OS nor One UI 10 has been officially announced.
If the leak is accurate, Samsung could be preparing more than another yearly software update. A deeper AI focus, a cleaner design and new services could change how Galaxy phones work. The real test will be whether these changes make daily use easier, rather than simply adding more AI features.
