Xiaomi has
dismissed Wang Teng, the well-known General Manager of
Redmi. The company says he broke rules that senior staff are required to follow. The decision was shared in an internal memo on September 8. Soon after, Wang confirmed the news himself on social media.
For Xiaomi fans, the announcement came as a shock. Wang was not just another executive working behind the curtain. He was often the face of
Redmi, especially around the
Redmi Note series. That product line has been a huge success, so his sudden exit raises questions about where Redmi goes next.
Xiaomi’s statement
The internal memo pointed to “serious violations” of company rules. It also named the “Xiaomi Group Code of Integrity” and the firm’s staff regulations. In short, Xiaomi said Wang Teng had conflicts of interest and failed to meet company standards.
The story spread quickly on Chinese social platforms. Within hours, users were debating what had happened and what it might mean for the brand.
Wang Teng replies
Wang did not hide from the situation. On Weibo, he admitted to mistakes and wrote: “I made some mistakes in the past and accept the consequences.” He also thanked Xiaomi’s leadership and said he would continue to support the company even after leaving.
But as rumors grew louder, he posted again. One claim suggested he leaked details about Xiaomi’s automotive strategy. Wang denied this in clear terms: “I did not steal company secrets and sell them, nor did I accept money from others.” He admitted to poor judgment in some areas but stressed he had done nothing illegal.
What it means for Redmi
Wang Teng’s role was not small. He was active in marketing and often spoke directly to fans online. Sometimes he even sparred with rival brands. His exit leaves a gap in the way Redmi connects with its audience.
Still,
Xiaomi is not a small company. It has other leaders who can step in. Analysts believe product launches will continue as planned, though the sudden change comes at a sensitive time. The mid-range market is crowded, and brands like Honor, Oppo, and Realme are pushing hard. Redmi will need to keep its momentum.
For now, Xiaomi has not said who will replace Wang. The company repeated that it will stick to its values of discipline and integrity. What fans and analysts will watch closely is whether Redmi can stay on track without one of its most familiar voices.
