Xiaomi just
released the first official teaser for the 17 Max, confirming a launch before the end of May. Lu Weibing — Xiaomi Group partner, president of the mobile division, and GM of the Xiaomi brand — described it as a "fully upgraded" version of the standard 17. Not just bigger. Upgraded across the board.
Three colors confirmed: black, blue, and white.
Key Points
- Xiaomi officially confirmed the 17 Max for a May 2026 launch — first teaser images released showing design with rounded rear camera module and narrow bezels
- Lu Weibing confirmed the 17 Max is a "fully upgraded" Xiaomi 17 — positioning it as a comprehensive improvement rather than a size variant
- 6.9-inch flat 1.5K LTPO display at 120Hz, symmetrical dual speakers, ultrasonic in-display fingerprint, and advanced water resistance expected
- 8,000mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging — would be the largest battery ever on a Xiaomi-branded smartphone
- 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP-series main camera, 50MP ultra-wide, 50MP 3x periscope telephoto with Leica branding — Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with LPDDR5X and UFS 4.1
"Fully Upgraded" — What Lu Weibing's Words Actually Signal
Xiaomi's president didn't use casual language here. Calling the 17 Max "fully upgraded" across camera, battery, and performance is a deliberate positioning statement — distancing the device from the perception that Max models are simply stretched versions of the standard phone.
The design confirms part of that story visually. The rounded camera module integrated smoothly into the rear panel echoes the Xiaomi 15 series' cleaner aesthetic. Official images show narrow bezels on the 6.9-inch flat display — no curvature, no compromised side viewing from aggressive edge rounding. Ceramic and carbon fibre-inspired finishes are tipped for select variants alongside the confirmed black, blue, and white options.
8,000mAh — The Battery Record Xiaomi Kept Mentioning
We've covered the 8,000mAh figure twice — first through SRRC certification, then through 3C approval. The teaser doesn't change the number but confirms the device is real and imminent. That battery with 100W wired charging gives the 17 Max a full charge in roughly 60-70 minutes. The 50W wireless charging with PPS compatibility adds genuine daily flexibility without the cable.
For a 6.9-inch flagship, the combination of 8,000mAh capacity and fast wireless charging is unusual — most large-battery phones either sacrifice wireless speed or don't include it at all.
The Camera Gap Between 17 and 17 Max
The standard
Xiaomi 17 uses a capable but conventional triple camera setup. The 17 Max steps up to a 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP-series primary — significantly more resolution and sensor capability for cropping flexibility and detail retention. The 50MP 3x periscope telephoto on the Max positions it above the standard 17's zoom capability without reaching Ultra-tier specs.
Leica branding carries across to the 17 Max — the colour science, optical tuning, and Leica UI elements that define the 17 series imaging experience are all confirmed present.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 keeps the 17 Max in the current flagship generation. LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage are the expected configuration — no LPDDR6 or UFS 5.0, which are reserved for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro generation arriving later in 2026.
Before the end of May. The wait is short now.
