Xiaomi Just Ended Software Support for More Phones, Including the Xiaomi 12 Lite

Xiaomi has added another group of phones to its End of Life list, and this time the Xiaomi 12 Lite is among them. The affected devices will no longer get regular HyperOS updates, bug fixes or security patches. In other words, if you still use one of these phones, the software you have today may be the software you keep.

The timing is interesting too. Xiaomi is currently rolling out the first HyperOS 4 beta builds to its newer phones, while some older models are now leaving the update program for good.

The biggest name on the latest list is the Xiaomi 12 Lite, which launched in 2022 with Android 12 and MIUI 13. It later moved to HyperOS, but its official software support period has now come to an end.

The Xiaomi 12 Lite isn't alone. Xiaomi has also ended support for several Redmi and Poco models as part of its latest EOL update. Once a device reaches this stage, Xiaomi no longer promises regular firmware or security updates.

Here's the thing, though. That doesn't mean your phone will suddenly stop working. Apps will continue to run, calls will still work and you can keep using the device for as long as you want.

The problem is what happens next.

Once regular support ends, newly found security issues may stay unfixed. Xiaomi says it may still release a patch if a serious security problem appears, but there is no promise that this will happen.

To be honest, this matters much more to me than missing the next HyperOS design. I can live without new icons or animations. Using a phone for banking, email and personal data without current security patches is a different story.

That doesn't mean you need to replace your Xiaomi 12 Lite tomorrow. But if you plan to keep it for another two or three years, software support is now something you should think about.

There is also a clear difference between these older models and Xiaomi's latest devices. Many of the phones reaching EOL in 2026 were released before the company moved toward longer software support. The Xiaomi 12 Lite, for example, had been scheduled to receive security updates until 2026.

Newer Xiaomi phones are in a much better position, with the company now offering longer Android and security support on many models.

And that's probably the most important part of this story. The Xiaomi 12 Lite is still a perfectly usable phone. Its Snapdragon 778G, 120Hz AMOLED display and 108MP camera haven't suddenly become bad because Xiaomi changed a line on its support page.

But software support has become part of the hardware buying decision. A phone can easily last five or six years now, and the updates need to last just as long.
