Xiaomi’s next flagship didn’t leak through the usual channels. Instead, it
appeared briefly on the company’s own Weibo profile. A new avatar image, live for only a short time, showed what looks very much like the rear design of the
Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. The picture was replaced quickly, but not before screenshots started making the rounds.
The photo reveals three rear cameras: two large sensors stacked side by side and a smaller third lens with flash. What immediately grabs attention, though, is the large secondary display taking up the whole camera island. It’s not a small notification window—it looks like a full-width panel integrated into the back of the phone.
A Return to an Old Experiment
If the idea feels familiar, that’s because Xiaomi tried something like this before. The
Mi 11 Ultra from 2021 included a small rear display, just 1.1 inches across. It showed the time, battery level, or incoming alerts. It looked futuristic, but it didn’t carry over to later models.
The 17 Pro Max seems to build on that concept in a much bigger way. Instead of a tiny strip, we may get a panel big enough to actually use. Imagine framing a selfie with the rear cameras, swiping through songs without turning the phone around, or checking notifications at a glance. Even simple things like dismissing alerts could feel quicker with a tap on the back screen.
Why This Matters
Flagship phones don’t leave much room for dramatic change anymore. Most offer fast processors, sharp displays, and reliable cameras. Features like a second screen could help Xiaomi stand out in a market where design risks are rare.
