Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S & Snapdragon 845 Combination Was Quite Difficult - Lei Jun

In two days, Xiaomi's new flagship smartphone - Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S will be released and this will be the first Xiaomi device to sport the flagship Snapdragon 845 SoC. Samsung Galaxy S9 series launched this chip but soon, the MIX 2S will arrive with this processor followed by Xiaomi Mi 7. However, Xiaomi's CEO, Lei Jun has just revealed that the application of this chip with powerful performance also comes with a host of technical difficulties.

Lei Jun said that using the Snapdragon 845 on the Mi MIX 2S is not as easy as buying the chip. He stated that in the development of a new smartphone, manufacturers often discover that the desired processors are far from complete and this was the case with Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S and SD845. There are numerous bugs to tackle and the workload is very high. This meant that Xiaomi had to test, verify and repair the Snapdragon 845 so that it will be compatible with the Mi MIX 2S.

In fact, the company had to set up an R&D department in San Diego, United States, last year to ensure the quality and progress of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S project. It assisted Qualcomm in completing the research and development of the Snapdragon 845 and made it better compatible with the Xiiaomi smartphone. Lei Jun stated that this is a common issue that almost all manufacturers using a chip for the first time encounters.
