OnePlus One now has 3GB RAM and 2.5Ghz Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AC processor

OnePlus have gone and turned the tables once more as they have just announced the OnePlus One flagship will have 3GB RAM and a Snapdragon 801 processor!

Originally announced as a Snapdragon 800 phone with 2GB RAM, the OnePlus One has now been updated to boast 3GB RAM and a 2.5Ghz Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AC processor!

Earlier this year OnePlus announced that their first phone, the OnePlus One would have a Snapdragon 800 chip as it offered the best performance and would allow the One to launch sooner rather than later. Now Pete Lao, CEO at OnePlus, has cited that a strong relationship with Qualcomm has allowed the team to update the processor and performance to the faster 2.5Ghz 801 with faster 578Mhz GPU.

While updating the chipset would have been enough of a newsflash by itself, OnePlus have also taken the opportunity to update the phone to 3GB RAM.

These new updates bring the OnePlus One specifications to sit nicely between the Oppo Find 7a with 2GB RAM and the Find 7 with 3GB RAM but 2k display.

OnePlus will officially launch the OnePlus One at an event held in Beijing on 23rd April 2014.

Never Settle indeed 🙂 I hope Never Settle won’t turn into never available in the end though…

Ok now its settled. Im going to buy this beauty. Hopefully Oneplus will release the same phone everywhere, not a TD-SCDMA crap before the main release

This means they still haven’t started manufacturing. This is actually bad news!

    • April 8, 2014

Unless they had planned this all along

      • April 8, 2014

Well. I do think they planned this from the beginning. Switching the processor from AB to AC version isn’t that big of a change (it’s pin compatible) but adding memory is harder. I suspect that they planned this all along.

        Ridiculous marketing bullshit!

I’d be surprised if production hadn’t already started. More likely this has been happening behind the scenes for a while and have only now announced it because it’s gone into production so they have the stock of SoC’s required. I for one am now very interested in this phone.

Sounds like Xiaomi, all the hype. No phone in sight. No doubt the phone would be absolutely a beast and cheap in price. Sadly, a phone unavailable is a phone set for failure.

Sorry I have a Xiaomi red rice and the Mi3 is not that hard to get and I am from the UK so where have you been?

Bailey where did you buy your Xiaomi Red Rice from & was setup easy (are you using the version of MIUI that came preinstalled on the device) ?

Talk about cry babies, heard of delayed gratification anybody…. Even if they loose a few, and annoy more than a few with the hype, they will also attract a lot of new interest, and most of it +1 positive as the specs get ‘upgraded’ = still clever marketing/augurs well for the future of the brand. But, please, did somebody mention on another thread that the 801 in a top spec version is double SIM capable – and if so, do you think it likely that they will pull another rabbit out of the hat and propose it with the OPO?

    • April 8, 2014

For some reason I think that it’s unlikely that they’d keep that under their hat for this long.

I do agree with you though, 9 bands of LTE aren’t useful in one country, and you need to either swap SIMs or have multiple SIM cards to use all 9.

I personally think that 3 SIMs would be the best balance with the LTE bands they’ve chosen. This would let you simultaneously have active SIMs from China, HKG or SIN, and US or Canada, all at the same time. Having them all active is needed to keep from missing calls and SMSes, so swapping isn’t ideal.

I am also waiting for the Xiaomi Mi3S, rumors say it also has a 2.5Ghz Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AC processor + 3GB RAM. It should be announced this week.

        April 9, 2014

I can’t wait to see a comparison of the two. But I think One Plus is winning they will have country specific support & they have an up and running forum (similar to Oppo’s). That being the case why would an International buyer want a Xiaomi Mi3 (or indeed any Xiaomi device) ?

You don’t think mean being a UK buyer would be better off with OnePlus One for those reasons ?

Just a quick question, I have noticed that mobile phones now don’t have HDMI output, I would like to use the phone to plug a USB with movies and play them on a big screen TV, however I have noteced more and more that phones are not supporting HDMI out, it’s probably cheapear, but is there any current phone that supports this?

    • April 8, 2014

      Chromecast?

        April 8, 2014

Actually I own one of those pens, but it’s not the same, it would be cool to cary around a phone that can output to a big screen… I guess Miracast, WiDi, etc is the way to go.

    • April 8, 2014

Miracast, MHL do the trick now.

        April 8, 2014

Problem is my TV does not support that wireless display stuff… anyway with Android boxes like Amazon Fire, etc… it’s less relevant still would be nice to have.

        • April 8, 2014

MHL should be the better option for you, you will only need to get an adapter after which you can hook it up to your TV.

Next upgrades, sapphire screen + 20mpx Sony camera + 128 GB eMMC? 😛

These guys are all mystery, but you’ll find no phone like the OnePlus One under 400 $, that’s for sure.

I really hope that should the OnePlus One succeed, they will make a mini flagship later this year with the same EU friendly policies. 4.7″ 720 display, slim bezels, 3GB RAM, Snapdragon 800, WCDMA + LTE, decent camera and soundchip, physical shutter button, MicroSD & removable battery above 2,300 mAh. For about $350 I`d be all over that. Am I a dreamer? Does anyone make a similar smartphone already for a reasonable price?

    • April 10, 2014

Ummm… There’s no point to a 720p screen. and this IS the “mini” version, it’s sized smaller than the 5″ offerings from other vendors.

And why dream about Snapdragon 800? More like the 810 or Tegra4 or ANYTHING not from 2012!

      • Josef
        April 10, 2014

Well I beg to differ. Personally I think 720 for a sub-5″ display makes more sense asi it is battery and GPU friendly and for my eye hardly distinguishable.
I agree on the CPU issue but for that the mentioned price is simply unrealistic until next year, I think.
