Xiaomi Redmi 1S receives unofficial Android 5.0 update

xiaomi redmi 1s

It’s thanks once again to the developer community that the Xiaomi Redmi 1S has already received an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The Redmi 1S is the bread and butter phone in the Xiaomi range and one which has been popular with buyers in China, India and in other markets even if the phone hasn’t officially been launched.

With such interest in the device, a thriving community of developers have been fast to release custom ROM’s for the phone. The newest made available over on the MIUI forums is the unofficial Android L Mokee rom.

Gizchina News of the week

Mokee is based on Android 5.0.1 and in its current state is a beta only, but a stable version is expected in just 10 days. The ROM comes pre-rooted so you don’t need to go through any additional steps once installed.

Users over on the MIUI forums have already reviewed the ROM (here).

People who use 4.2 don’t know the joy of we, the ones that are stuck, I mean, use 2.2 XP
I remember I bought my phone and in the time it took to came from China 2.3 appeared.

I love when people blame Mediatek for a company not updating its devices. Meditatek phones have had Kit Kat capability since last March. It’s not thier fault Xiaomi hasn’t released a update. Several companies have updated their phones to 4.4 and have updates for 5.0 planned. Has very little to do with MTK. There are Qualcom phones which still are stuck on 4.2 too.
