Apple Limits New iOS 27 Camera Controls to iPhone 18 Pro and Duo

Apple has limited two new camera controls in iOS 27 to its newest iPhones. The new Texture and Grain options in Photographic Styles are available on the iPhone 18 Pro models and iPhone Duo. Older iPhones do not get these controls.

The change caused some confusion because Apple's first wording suggested wider support. The company originally said the new controls would be available on iPhones that support the latest version of Photographic Styles. Apple's current support pages now give a more specific list.

The new controls are part of Photographic Styles 3. They let users change the look of a photo in more detail.

Texture can be used to soften skin or add other looks, while Grain adds a film-like effect. Users can also change how strong these effects are.

Apple's current support guide says these controls are available on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The company also lists the feature on the iPhone Duo's product page.

The iPhone Duo has a 48MP main camera and a 48MP Ultra Wide camera. It also has a Center Stage front camera. Apple says its updated Photographic Styles can use the new Texture and Grain controls.

This means owners of older iPhones can still use Photographic Styles, but they do not get the new Texture and Grain controls.

Apple's iOS 27 guide says other supported iPhones can still change things such as tone, color, and intensity. The new texture options are separate from those controls.

Apple has not explained why the new controls are limited to the latest models. The company has simply listed which devices support them.

For users who want these new photo controls, that means an iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, or iPhone Duo is required. Owners of older models will have to keep using the Photographic Styles features already available on their phones.
