Leaked UMi X2 photos give us a first glimpse at 5-inch, quad-core phone

UMi had a fantastic year this year with the dual-core MT6577, but judging by these photos and specs 2013 is going to be even better thanks to the quad-core, 5-inch Umi X2!

We have already heard rumour about the upcoming Umi flagship phone, but thanks to these leaked photos this is the first time we have had a chance to glimpse the new model in the flesh!

What we know about the Umi X2

From the leaked details and promotional material, we know that the UMi X2 will feature a 5-inch full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution display, 13 mega-pixel rear camera and “low power consuming” quad-core processor.

The processor of course will be one of Mediatek’s new MT6589 units which can be clocked at speeds of 1.2Ghz to 1.6Ghz and has been especially developed to use less power than rival CPU’s. The MT6589 also bring dual-sim WCDMA/GSM standby.

umi x2 specification leaked

As for the design, Umi have dropped there ultra-thin Xiaomi look-a-like body in favour of a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 style which is said to measure in at about 8.9mm and have a bezel (screen edge to body edge) of around 4mm.

Unlike the JiaYu G4 which has managed to receive a vast number of updates and remain at the 999 Yuan price point the UMi X2 is expected to go on sale for 1499 Yuan ($240) which is likely due to the larger 1080 HD display.

Looking forward to get one. UMI X1 is an excellent phone, but crap GPS. Hopefully, X2 has the GPS sorted.
I still like the X1 look, the NOTE rounded look, I don’t like.

GPS is a problem with all Mediatek phones, there is a way to get it to work and some people do manage to get it to work but others dont, I myself dont own a Mediatek phone so wont speak further on it. But for UMI X2 to have a good GPS Mediatek needs to sort out GPS issue in their chips.

I have an UMI X1 as well as a Newman N1 and GPS is excellent, at least here in Sweden. Bit I really much more fond of the square-ish UMI X1 look than a “Samsung” rounded corners look. I feel it’s a bad move, and I will think twice about to buy one, which is a pity since UMI has a great support and posts updates pretty quickly as opposed to Newman which I won’t buy again. Though Newman is a pretty good phone as well, except that there’s no JB update 🙁

I have the Umi X2 since thursday, and it is a great phone! Only I didn’t get the GPS working. Used Fasterfix to modify the ntp-server, and then I get a failure.

    Some has a clue?
