Xiaomi laptop packaging discovered

Beijing based Xiaomi look to be readying a Xiaomi laptop after purported packaging photos appear online.

Over a month ago we reported that Xiaomi were rumoured to be working on their own range of affordable laptop computers. Reports from Chinese media sources claimed that the Xiaomi laptop would cost just 3999 Yuan ($650) and be equipped with a Haswell i7 processor with Nvidia GTX 660M graphics, 4GB RAM and a 63GB SSD hard drive.

Gizchina News of the week

Today pictures of what could be the packaging of the Xiaomi Laptop appear online. The box looks a lot like the recycled cardboard designs which Xiaomi phones come in, and features the Xiaomi logo along with an Intel sticker.

The authenticity of the photo is to be questioned however as it appears next to what souces are claiming to be a render of the laptop. We know for a fact this is false as the ‘render’ was actually created here at Gizchina for the original article!

Still the idea of a Xiaomi laptop does sound very appealing and leaves a lot of questions unanswered, the major one being “what OS will a Xiaomi laptop run?”

the price and features are already a very nice, so please do something with its availability, i heard that chinese government have a regulation to protect local merchant, so international customers cant buy directly from the local store, in this case xiaomi, so we have to buy from resellers with higher price, so the price factor, is not that big of a difference, is that true? i live in indonesia, oppo smartphones are available officialy here, oppo find 5 only cost $550, by paying that much i could get not only the phone but also a guaranteed post sales service……if something happened to the phone i just have to send it to the service center which is near, but for xiaomi products, we have to send it to china, which will cost us some bucks, and we have to pray that it will be delivered and not lost in the shipping process, we have to wait, untill how long??? the phone will be sent back after the service is done, who will pay for the cost? its very complicated……so at least, i suggest xiaomi should make a program to also protect the international customers by not letting the resellers to sell in overly marked up price, for instance they only allowed to sell not more than 30% of the official price….my friend bought a xiaomi mi2s 32 gb version, the phone itself cost $455, he paid more $500++ to get it delivered to his home address, which is at the range of oppo find 5’s price….but with a complicated and costly warranty claiming processs, and not exactly delivered to his address, he had to pick it up at fedex and went through a few blablabla process….so imo, it better for xiaomi to go international, they could set a higher price for their flagship phones (and laptops), if its priced $320 in china, they could sell $400-450 for the international version of their phones, but of course with a clear warranty, it is still a tempting price, we wouldnt mind to pay more…..

and we have to pray again that it will be delivered back safely, not lost nor damaged….

63GB SSD is pretty low, they should atleast have 128GB SSD……… Will it have MIUI ROM on top of windows 8………????

    • June 17, 2013

I’m hoping a MIUI version of Chrome so that it can work here in China without issue 🙂 most likely it will be an Android or Linux computer though

      • June 17, 2013

I’m hoping that it have dual boot option, so that we can have best of both worlds……… 🙂

It’s an everything computer, andi. If it’s running x86, they cannot really restrict what it can run.

    wishlist:

    1) the os
miui is one factor that distinguished xiaomi phones than the others, so hopefully the os will be uniquely xiaomi to, and it comes with this os preinstalled but it has option to install secondary os (windows) so we can dualboot

    2) numpad
simple feature but its needed, not all laptop have it

    3) backlit keyboard, trackpad, and mi logo
hopefully (but very unlikely) that the keyboard could have customized backlit colour like alienware laptops….xiaomi rainbowfx???

xiaomi mibook – everything u need

andi if u know the xiaomi guys please let them read my wishlist =)
