More and more Chinese brands are developing the Yet Another syndrome. The list, which originated with Elephone, now hands brands like Oukitel, Doogee, etc. on it.
After announcing the U8 (review), U9, U10, U6 (in chronological order), Oukitel is now teasing the U2. The U8 was a curved-glass-metal-chassis phone which was fairly impressive, and the U6 is touted to be a super powerful dual screen device.
Gizchina News of the week
The U2 that Oukitel is now talking about seems like a phone which will be fairly entry-level, but with a body made up of glass and metal. It’ll come with the MT6735 (most likely in it’s ‘P’ avatar; more info here) and with 8GB of ROM, will sport 1GB of RAM. Oukitel also tell us that the U2 will have only a 5-inch screen and a qHD resolution.
I don’t know what fascination OEMs have with the MT6735 SoC, but it is not cool. There are better options out there, and it is hard to believe there’s no external influence making OEMs ship phones with the MT6735.
Your thoughts on the Oukitel U2 and #YAOP?
Im going to buy if it only costs 50euro.
Global lte
I expect it’s on Muhammed Yasir’s like list already! 😀
If I understand correctly, mtk chips are manufactured in “foundries” licenced by mtk. Rather like subcontracting out. Perhaps one or more of these foundries are able to exert pressure on OEMs in some way, either by cut-throat pricing, or by mafia style cut-throat threats ?
AHAHHAHAHA … sorry , but the qHD and 1 GB ram is a punch in the liver 😀 , i’ll pass buddy 😀
but how is it even POSSIBLE that mtk are FORCING OEMS to use their chips through threats ??? that sounds too screwed up … and even depressing :/
Sorry, I should realise that you have certain standards! 😀 cheap is only one!
I’m not suggesting Mtk are forcing anyone… They don’t actually make the chips, I’m hypothysising that the small companies who do make the chips are engaged in some sort of price war between themselves, possibly engaging in, shall we say, unusual sales techniques
hmm … that could be possible
and with the amount of laziness we find in the average human being , i bet nobody bothers going micro to root out these shady practices being done in the deep…
It’s funny that you dislike qHD and 1 GB, and you want cheap phone. If you find something cheap with HD and 2 GB, than it will have bad camera, poor quality, weak speakers, buggy ROM etc, you know?
and my dear friend , what guarantee is there that this 1 gb phone will have the deadliest camera ever ? that will out class even iphone’s optics ??
its all about patience and perseverance … along with a pinch of fun added in 🙂
i can wait for the perfect phone 😀
I didn’t say that 1 GB phone will have good camera.
Ok, let’s put this simply: it is hard to believe that you can get a perfect phone for 100-150 dollars – either you will get poor quality, or you will get bad specifications.
In a few months there will be cheap phones with octa-core and 2 GB, but guess what? 16-core and 4 GB will be the standard.
Okay, I went too literally, but you get the point. You can’t get too much for too little money, maybe on some promotion or something like that, if you are lucky, but you finally have to buy some phone from China, and not wait for promotion.
Few days ago, I ordered Lenovo A880 for just $80 from PandaWill and it’s for my girlfriend. And I ordered Prestigio 7500 from EverBuying for just $90, it is for me.
They are not perfect, but they are cheap.
You get the point?
i get it … trade-offs are a common thing in the tech world , as are
the crazy EXPONENTIAL growth rates ( from 2gb ram and quad core standard, we jump straight to 4 GB ram and octacore , nearly skipping 3 gb ram
and hexa core )
im just being patient atm … apart from a bargain
seeker im also a tech geek 😀 , i love seeing new devices with good
efforts on design , pricing and innovation pop up every now and then 🙂
you are probably right about the part of perfect being impossible , BUT i might get my hands for the next best thing ….
and im literally willing to wait for the turn of the year to make up my mind 🙂
enjoy your new phones , tho
Thanks. And I am also geek, I also enjoy new phones on Gizchina. 🙂
I don’t think it’s on anyones list with these specs, and the metal-glass build doesn’t help either.
“I don’t know what fascination OEMs have with the MT6735 SoC, but it is not cool.”
Brother-in-law used to work in the mobile industry in Taiwan; Benq, HTC, etc., and
talking to him recently he reckoned Mediatek have a huge influence on
what is released and when. Not just the supply of chipsets, but broader
product planning and design.

Price tag mt6735 is the cheapest solution… mt6732 devices are moving to mt6753 or mt6735 for the chepeast ones
well then … how about becoming a monk 😀 ?
lets make a gizchina temple in tibe. Or even better in Shangrila
guess what , i’ll visit that too :p !
keep some ear buds ready , just in case 😀 !
I dont even think these will be enough http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001RMY5JW?psc=1
