Or could the Oppo Find 9 get the Snapdragon 821 first?

Oppo’s seemingly mythical Oppo Find 9 receives the rumour treatment this morning care of a trusted Weibo source.

It’s been 2 years since Oppo released a flagship device, but rumours that there will be a Find 9 just don’t seem to want to go away, and these latest are the most detailed to date.

With the Find 7 having been the last flagship Oppo launched it is safe to say some Oppo fans are starting to loose hope, but this year has proven that flagships sometimes do just take a little longer to launch. Proof of this comes in the form of the Vivo Xplay 5, launched after the Xplay 3S (which actually came before the Find 7), and the Xiaomi Mi5.

We’ve had Find 9 rumours before though, but what makes these different is the fact we get more of a detailed spec to go by, along with a rough diagram how the phone may look.

Gizchina News of the week

The first standout feature for me is the design of the Find 9 in the leaks. Imagine of the OPO received an additional camera and you wouldn’t be far off the design.

Specifications listed on the Oppo Find 9 diagram include:

  • 5.5-inch Super AMOLED 2K display.
  • Snapdragon 821 chipset.
  • 21 mega-pixel rear cameras with OIS.
  • 16 mega-pixel front camera.
  • USB Type C.
  • 4100mAh battery.
  • Super VOOC fast charting.
  • Color OS 3.0 based on Android 5.1.
  • 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.

So the specs hit all the right marks for anyone looking at a new breed of flagship device, but again this is just a rumour (although one from a known reliable source) so don’t go catching your chickens just yet.

However one detail of the Oppo Find 9 specs does strike me as genuine, and that’s the Android version. If any company this year launches a flagship phone with Android 5.1 still it’s going to be Oppo.

      Not for $400 it isn’t.

Find 7A was sold around $450, and Find 7 around $600.
Oppo could follow the same logic for its Find 9.

I meant this isn’t the OnePlus 3 for $400. If OP3 had the above specs it would cost a lot more than $400.

For sure, no one can sell a flasgship with these specs for $400.

But if these specs are truely those of the Find 9, then Find 9A’s would be slightly inferior, like Find 7A’s were compared to Find 7.

As an exemple, If Find9 has SD821+QHD+4KmAh then Find 9A may have SD820+FHD+3.2KmAh, thus becoming a “better” OnePlus 3 (or a “true” OnePlus 3 for MexiDroid) that could be sold under $500.

SD820 + FHD + 3200mAh is almost identical to the OP3, we would have to compare the two side by side before deciding which one is better. Those extra 200mAh could be a difference maker or they could be no difference at all. Really depends on the other components they use and the software.

The Find 7 was an awesome phone, one of the best flagships of it’s time. It seems like since then Find 7 OPPO has kind of hit a wall and never released anything that quite matches up to it.

The Find 9 rumor above is a mishmash product. 8GB of RAM is nothing but what I like to call a”back of the box feature”, it’s marketing pure and simple. Meanwhile Android 5.1 at time when Android 7 (N) is about to be released soon is just pathetic.

Oppo have skipped the SD810 wave of flagships, maybe ’cause the SoC was too shitty. Now they skipped the SD820 wave too, maybe there was too many flagships already on the line and BBK was betting on ViVo’s, or they were maximizing ROI on R9, who knows.

But this rumor seems fake, there is no reference to the latest techs Oppo displayed at MWC, and the specs are random S2 2016 flagship specs like anyone could have named it.

Plus Oppo released Project Spectrum in May, which is a Color OS / Stock Android 6 mixed ROM, so this Find 9 on Android 5.1 Color OS sounds fake too imho.

About the design, i don’t think Oppo would release a flagship with a screen / body ratio under 70% and re-use Find 7 back panel.

OPPO didn’t skip 810 or 820, they released the OnePlus 2 and OnePlus 3.

Talkin about Oppo as a part of a larger group, it may be true, but as a brand which has higher standards than it’s budget counterpart (One Plus) it isn’t true…

Here I was talking about Oppo as the higher standard, camera centric brand inside the Oppo-Vivo-OnePlus conglomerate.

It appears that OPPO is using OnePlus as it’s flagship spec brand and using OPPO as more of a lifestyle brand, similar to Vivo. A brand that doesn’t chase the top specs but still makes quality devices.

Oppo and OnePlus are two different BBK companies.

Keep telling yourself that. OnePlus was formed by “former” Oppo executives. The One Plus trademark was filed before the company actually existed by….Oppo. The principal (and for a long time only) investor in OP is…Oppo. OnePlus is separate from Oppo in name only, in reality it is like Honor from Huawei or Nubia from ZTE.

Oppo won’t release a flagship without Color OS, their own ROM. But they always are a version late so they’ll probably release their next flagship with a Color OS ROM based on Android 6.
