Chuwi SurBook – Is it the best Microsoft Surface Pro Alternative?

Chuwi SurBook

The Chuwi SurBook is an affordable and powerful Microsoft Surface Pro alternative that is currently crushing it over at Indiegogo. Indeed their campaign has reached 2559% the goal they had set, that’s about $730,000 more than they needed!

To make it even more appealing the company has just released its AnTuTu benchmark score, which has been said to be 112,000, definitely a great result for the Intel Apollo Lake N3450 processor it packs. The SurBook has also been listed as one of the best tablets with Windows 10 over at Slashgear, but is that enough to defeat the Microsoft competitor? Let’s find out in this quick comparison.

Design

The design of the Chuwi SurBook and Microsoft Surface Pro are very similar and I suppose we can tell who copied who, but that’s not always a bad thing. If we have a look at the display we find out they both feature 12.3-inch Samsung IGZO display panels with 2736*1824 resolution, 267 PPI and 3:2 aspect ratio, so no complains there.

They also both come with an adjustable kickstand on the back and a detachable backlit keyboard, transforming the tablet into a more productive laptop.

Memory & Storage

As far as storage is concerned, the SurBook and Surface Pro come in a 128GB version, but the SurBook is also available in 64GB if you want to save some bucks. RAM wise, we find 6GB on the cheaper Chinese counterpart vs 4GB on the Microsoft tablet. So if you’re an avid Google Chrome user with dozens of tabs open at all times, then the SurBook should serve you better.

Connectivity

In the connectivity department the SurBook is slightly better equipped with 2 USB 3.0 ports and an USB Type-C port which can transmit both video and audio, against the only USB 3.0 port on the Surface Pro. The Chuwi SurBook also supports 20V fast charging with PD2.0 technology.

Conclusion

Chuwi Surbook

At the end it all comes to how much you’re willing to spend for a tablet/laptop combo. The Chuwi SurBook is definitely powerful enough to go through any task you throw at it, and it costs about half as much as the Microsoft Surface Pro; but the choice is up to you!

The Chuwi SurBook Indiegogo campaign is almost at its conclusion (3 days left), if you want to get one visit its campaign page here, it starts at $309.99 for the 64GB storage version (no keyboard). Learn more about it on Chuwi’s official website.

Well, I can understand that you’re looking for a faster SoC like a Core-M… but that won’t be the same price at all… What is your intended use?
