Today, Honor officially released the new Honor 9X and Honor 9X Pro with a starting price of just 1399 yuan ($200). At the same time, Honor’s president – Zhao Ming – announced that the company has become one of the youngest and biggest world’s technology brand; thus a little recap of all the various Honor series is needed.

Ming said that Honor mobile phones are divided into four series: Honor M line (also Magic) will try “future technologies”; the Honor V line, will bring the “best technology”; Honor N line (also called digital line) will take care “technology trends”; Finally Honor X series, will be the “because we can” series.

If these descriptions are still vague, Zhao Ming made a more detailed interpretation when he was interviewed after the conference.

So, let’s start with the Honor M line. Honor’s president explained that the M series is a product line that defines the “idealism of science and technology”. If there is a very good concept, it will be carried on the M series.

Moving onto the Honor V line, this will use the most advanced technology and chips, such as the first 5G mobile phone, available on the market. Zhao Ming also revealed that the Honor 5G mobile phone has been under development and testing in the labs and will be released in the fourth quarter of this year.

We then have the Honor N series or the “digital series” (such as Honor 20, 20 Pro). This represents the new trends in technology and is more about photography and aesthetics.

Finally, the Honor X series flagship is called “super-power” because it can bring amazing products at a price of around 2000 yuan ($290).

However, with the latest Honor 9X, the starting price is actually 1399 Yuan ($200). This puts a lot of pressure on the series which is now expected to sell over 20 million units; the previously Honor 8X sold more than 15 million units.

Zhao Ming also mentioned that the low-end Honor Play line will continue; with the Honor Play 9C and Play 9A on the horizon. Meanwhile for the Note and Max series there are no “natural iterations”, meaning that since it’s not a huge market, their future isn’t certain.
