Last month, we reported that Essential Second Phone is in the early stages of development. We now have the very first teaser of the device revealed by none other than the Founder of the company, Andy Rubin. It’s been a while since we have seen any new device from the Essential Products which managed to set a standard in the software support with its first iteration. Like earlier, it seems like the smartphone maker is now planning to bring out something majorly different.

Essential Second Phone: Color Shifting Back, Radically Different Form Factor

Essential Products founder Andy Rubin (ex co-founder of Android) went on its Twitter account to tease the second device from the brand. Well, the smartphone is completely different from the likes of what we see today. After introducing notch on phones, it seems like the company is all set to bring a radically different form factor. As you can see from the post itself, we have a device with a taller and narrower form factor. Although it looks like the device that can fold, it actually does not. Since we’re looking at a different form factor, the smartphone runs on a whole new UI. There is no solid information on whether the UI is based on Android or not.

Gizchina News of the week

The very first photo of the device shows the map application which looks nothing like the Google Maps. The entire user interface consists of scrolling cards which are quite uncommon these days. This suggests that the Essential Second Phone might run on something else entirely. In another tweet, Andy Rubin has also highlighted the color-shifting aspect of the device. With smartphone makers focussing on gradient finish design, this new color shifting design will take the gradient craze to the whole new level.

Other Key Details

Apart from color shifting back and different form factors, the tweet also highlights key details of the upcoming Essential Second Phone. If you look at the image closely, you will see a huge camera bump that seems to house a single rear sensor. Right below that, we can see the physical fingerprint sensor. Furthermore, the device is seen featuring a punch-hole selfie camera. Since this is the very first reveal, we’re expecting Essential Products to reveal more key and unique aspects of the device in the coming weeks.
