The smartphone industry has been evolving over the past few years. In fact, the last two years have been massive. We have seen developments in almost every aspect of the smartphone. The design, display, camera, battery and even charging capacity have all seen significant development. Most of these developments come out of China. Chinese manufacturers have been at the hub of global smartphone development. They are usually the first to launch a new feature worldwide. Now, if the recent speculations are true, we should expect a lot from Xiaomi.

According to information from @DigitalChatStation, Xiaomi will mass-produce multiple new technologies next year. The Weibo post shows that the company will mass-produce  the following technologies

  • On-Screen camera technology
  • 200W fast charging technology
  • Internal foldable smartphones
  • 2K display smartphones

All these technologies are not entirely new but a few are new to Xiaomi at least.

Gizchina News of the week

Of all these technologies, the 2K technology is not new at all. There are a host of smartphones with 2K displays. Some of these phones date as far back as 2016. However, 2K displays are still relevant and Xiaomi will release a couple of 2K smartphones next year.

The Chinese manufacturer is yet to release its first foldable phone even though it has a couple of patents. The Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha is not a foldable phone. This device comes with a wrap-around display. In fact, the MIX Alpha is not publicly available for purchase. If the recent report is true, we may be seeing a foldable phone from Xiaomi next year. This foldable phone will use the internal folding mechanism.

Presently, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra uses a 120W fast charging technology. This is about the fastest in the industry. Chinese manufacturing giant, Huawei, is only at 66W. A recent report even shows that Xiaomi’s 50W fast charging is on par with Huawei’s 66W fast charging technology. However, there are reports that the Xiaomi 120W fast charging does not really charge at 120W.

Xiaomi MIX 4 not coming anytime soon

Furthermore, @DigitalChatStation claims that Xiaomi will not add to its Mi MIX series this year. According to his post, “Don’t wait for MIX for now, there is no mass production information for this series”. Recall that after the release of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 in 2018, there has been no other smartphone in the MIX series. So, if you are enthusiastic about a new MIX smartphone, it may be wise to reduce the enthusiasm.
