OnePlus 9 series starts receiving ColorOS 11.2 in China

OnePlus 9

OnePlus always worked hard to make software one of the most appealing parts of its smartphones. The company started its journey with CyanogenOS in global markets but later developed its own AOSP-based OxygenOS firmware. OxygenOS brings a clean experience based on vanilla Android, but still has its own set of custom features and visuals. However, this isn’t exactly the cup of tea of OnePlus’ Chinese audience. For that reason, the company has been developing its HydrogenOS branch for China. Unfortunately, HydrogenOS didn’t receive the same level of attention when compared to OxygenOS. With the OnePlus 9 series, the company is leaving HydrogenOS behind in favor of Oppo’s ColorOS skin. Today, the new flagships are getting the latest ColorOS 11.2 update.

For those unaware, OnePlus and Oppo are part of the very same BBK Electronics group as well as Realme and Vivo. For that reason, it’s not uncommon to see those companies sharing certain resources and hardware advancements. Now, OnePlus is giving a step further by bringing ColorOS 11.2 to its flagships. We have to agree that Oppo has been doing a better job on its ColorOS 11 and HydrogenOS simply isn’t on par.

When it comes to the camera department, the update brings optimizations for noise and color expression of indoor scenes with the rear cameras. Moreover, it improves focus and video stability. Last but not least, it improves the zoom capabilities, ultra-wide-angle movement delay, and other functions.

Users will be receiving the new update via OTA channels. It should take a couple of days to reach all eligible units. Worth noting that this update is only meant for the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. After all, the Snapdragon 870-powered OnePlus 9R is an Indian smartphone and, for that reason, will be covered by the OxygenOS branch.
