Update: Galaxy Gear (SM-V700) Samsung App Store service

Dear Galaxy Gear users,

We have been providing Samsung Galaxy Store (Galaxy Apps) services for the Galaxy Gear (SM-V700) since its launch in 2013.

We will be discontinuing Galaxy Store services for the Galaxy Gear on Android OS as of August 5, 2021 (Korean Standard Time).

  • You can update your Galaxy Gear device to Tizen OS to continue receiving apps from the Galaxy Store.
  • Once a Galaxy Gear device has been changed to Tizen OS, it cannot be reverted to the previous Android version.
  • Installing Tizen OS will reset all user data on the Galaxy Gear device. You should back up any data like photos, videos, and voice recordings before changing the OS.
  • Certain apps are not supported after changing over to Tizen OS.

Best regards,

The Galaxy Store Team.

Shortly, Samsung will stop offering Galaxy Store support on the Galaxy Gear. Thus, apps and other services will cease to be a thing.

The Galaxy Gear User Should Know This

In fact, earlier this month, SlashGear was talking about this. So the Galaxy Gear users who are following the news referring to this smartwatch should be aware of this.

In September 2013, Samsung released the Gear smartwatch. It uses a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 320*320. The brushed metal surface and four exposed screws make it feel tough overall. The strap is made of rubber and has stripes on it to prevent slippage. It has six different color straps.

Anyway, Samsung will return to an Android-based operating system for its smartwatches later this year. The Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Active should run Wear OS instead of Samsung’s Tizen OS. This will help users access a wider selection of apps for Samsung’s smartwatches. But Samsung will not switch over existing watches running Tizen to Wear OS.
