Samsung’s Galaxy S20 FE Receiving September Security Patch As Part of 750MB Update

Today, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is getting a new software update with the new September 2021 security patch, according to users on Reddit, with the update rolling out in Italy, Switzerland and Brazil.

This comes after the device debuted in 2020 as an affordable option capable of offering flagship specifications, taking on the likes of OnePlus and Xiaomi and their ultra-competitive handsets.

Screenshots from users show that the update is 750MB in size, which is odd since usual security patches are 200MB or less, indicating at chances of the One UI 3.1.1 update accompanying the September patch for the device.

In case you missed it, Samsung announced One UI 3.1.1 alongside the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, which rolled out last week for the S21 series of devices.

The One UI 3.1.1 update is not a major one, with the only addition being the ability to better control the performance of the device via what Samsung calls Enhanced Processing as well as a fresh Bedtime Mode in the quick settings panel of the device.

This update will come to other markets, such as the US in the next few weeks, with the Galaxy S20 FE being the only device to run a September 2021 security patch, with more devices like the S21 series expected to get the same soon.

Users in other countries can also search the Settings and check whether they can update to this new build since it is most likely a global update for the popular handset from the Korean giant.

At the time of launch, Conor Pierce, the Corporate Vice President of Samsung UK and Ireland said “We are constantly speaking to our customers and know there is demand for a smartphone that takes stunning photos and can perform all day, at a competitive price point.

“Galaxy S20 FE is an extension of the Galaxy S20 family, designed to bring flagship features to a wider audience. Equipped with 5G, we have future-proofed the device so our customers can enjoy the incredible innovation we know this technology will bring to our everyday lives.”

The S20 FE is set to be succeeded by the S21 FE, which will likely feature similar improvements to the S20 FE as the S21 series did to the S20 series, including design updates, improved cameras and better build. Pricing may or may not vary.
