During the presentation of Windows 11, one particular feature caught the attention of users: support for Android applications on Microsoft’s latest OS. Indeed, it will be enough to go through the Windows Store, or rather the Amazon App Store, to download and install them. Only and since the official launch of Windows 11 in October 2021, the functionality is still long overdue, at least for the general public.

Members of the Insider program can try it out since late October 2021. However, this particular status will no longer be necessary to take advantage of it. Indeed, Microsoft has just announced the launch of the public beta for Android app support, starting in February 2022.

“Next month we’re bringing new experiences to Windows that include a public preview of how you can use AndroidTM apps on Windows 11 through the Microsoft Store and our partnerships with Amazon and Intel, taskbar improvements with call mute and unmute, easier window sharing and bringing weather to the taskbar, plus the introduction of two new redesigned apps, Notepad and Media Player”, said Panos Panay, Windows Product Manager at Microsoft.

Of course, this is not the only addition planned by Microsoft with this February 2022 update. It will also be necessary to count on improvements to the taskbar. Thus, the Weather widget will now be accessible there; while it will be possible to mute a call directly from this same bar. In addition, window sharing will be simplified with the addition of a new button. Finally, Notepad and the media player will benefit from a brand new design, redesigned for the occasion.

For now, Microsoft has not given an exact date for the deployment of this update. On a completely different subject, know that the American company has confirmed that Windows 11 is entering its final phase of deployment. In other words, the free migration to the new OS is coming to an end soon.
