Based on the global smartphone sales results of last year, Xiaomi managed to gain a foothold in the third line of the rankings of the largest smartphone manufacturers. The company now wants to raise its share in the segment of premium devices. The numbered series of flagships and the Mix line should help it in this, especially with the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Ultra, which should be a really good flagship smartphone of this year.
Xiaomi 12 Ultra flagship
The company’s super flagship in 2022 should be Xiaomi 12 Ultra, which was supposed to be presented this spring. But the latest news from China indicates that the flagship will be shown in the second half of this year and it will definitely be officially available globally.
Among the distinguishing features of Xiaomi 12 Ultra is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, created by TSMC. Presumably, the platform should be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+, and it will surpass the “regular” version, primarily with improved energy efficiency.
But the main focus of the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will be on the camera with a periscope module, which will offer a 5x optical zoom. It is quite natural that such a flagship will not be cheap. The expected price in China is $940. It is not difficult to assume that in Global markets the price tag for it can be at least $999.
Gizchina News of the week
Perhaps the sub-flagship under the designation 12X from Xiaomi did not appear by chance; and the company took the path of reducing the designations of its smartphones. So, instead of Xiaomi 12 Ultra, Xiaomi 12U can come out. This model was mentioned in a recent interview with a person in the company.
A few weeks ago, he also hinted at the imminent release of a super-flagship codenamed Big Cup XL; under which Xiaomi 12 Ultra should be hiding.
The abbreviation of names is a welcome addition, as in some top Xiaomi and Redmi models they are too long. For example, Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition or Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition. By the way, the successor of the latter in the leaks now appears simply as the Redmi K50 Gaming.
The abbreviation of the designations, of course, does not affect the characteristics in any way. Xiaomi 12U will still offer maximum performance and photo opportunities. Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC will act as a hardware platform; and there will be at least four modules in the main camera, one of which will provide 5x optical zoom.
