Qualcomm rushes to release Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Snapdragon 8Gx Gen 1

Qualcomm follows the schedule of two flagship chips per year. First, it presents a top-end chipset, and in the second half of the year, its overclocked version with the Plus prefix comes out. The chipmaker intends to follow this tradition this year as well; we are waiting for the announcement of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus coming soon

We have already heard that the main difference will be the process technology that will form the basis of the chip. If Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is using Samsung’s 4nm process, then its Plus version will receive TSMC’s 4nm process. Experts assure that the Taiwanese chipmaker’s technology is superior to the competitor’s solution in terms of maturity and energy efficiency. The company could not use the services of TSMC in the manufacture of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1; due to the chipmaker’s workload with the release of chips for Apple.

Unfortunately, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has become a “stove” and a “worthy” legacy of the “hot chips” Snapdragon 810 and Snapdragon 888. Whining about overheating Android flagships has become commonplace in the past year. Manufacturers were forced to look for ways to improve cooling systems, and this year not a single flagship announcement is complete without the manufacturer declaring its success in creating systems that are designed to efficiently remove heat.

Gizchina News of the week

Qualcomm is rumored to be rushing TSMC to release Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus in order to retire its predecessor as soon as possible. The chipmaker really hopes to “wash off” the notoriety of the manufacturer of “hot” chips. Unfortunately, we have no specifics about the timing of the release of the new process.

Smartphones on the latest Qualcomm  chip almost completely captured the January AnTuTu performance rating

The developers of the AnTuTu benchmark have published the performance rating of Android smartphones for January 2022. The main change compared to the results of December last year was that the first seven places were occupied by devices based on the fresh flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. At the same time, the top three smartphones received a score of more than 1 million points.

The first two lines of the rating are occupied by iQOO 9 Pro and iQOO 9; which scored 1,020,974 and 1,020,156 points, respectively. It is worth noting that the gap between the devices is insignificant; and may be due to a slightly lower load on the older model’s GPU; due to the use of a dedicated chip for displaying the image. Third place goes to Realme GT2 Pro with a score of 1,000,641 points.
