Motorola S30 Pro

Today, Motorola removed the wraps covering its Motorola X30 pro. The world’s first 200 MP camera smartphone arrived with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and 125 W charging to conquer the Chinese market. In addition to the premium flagship, Motorola is presenting a new cost-effective flagship dubbed Motorola S30 Pro. The device stands in the “flagship killer” category bringing the excellent Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ and other appealing specifications.

The Snapdragon 888+ wasn’t widely used by smartphone makers in 2021. Or at least, we can’t compare it with the popularity of the recently released Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. Motorola is bringing this chipset to the spotlight again with the Motorola S30 Pro. It’s still a powerful chipset made on the 5 nm architecture, featuring ARMv9 cores. The phone is paired with either 8 GB of RAM or 12 GB of RAM. In terms of storage, it’s 128 GB or 512 GB of Internal Storage.

The Motorola S30 Pro’s focus clearly is to offer performance. But it does not disappoint in other specifications. For example, it packs a gorgeous 6.55-inch OLED panel with a 144 Hz refresh rate. Motorola is one of the few brands offering 144 Hz for conventional smartphones. The phone has a main camera with 50 MP resolution and Optical Image Stabilization. The sensor will need to prove itself as instead of Sony or Samsung, Motorola selected the Omnivision OV50A. Anyway, the phone also brings a 13 MP ultrawide shooter and a 2 MP decorative sensor for depth sensing. There is also a 32 MP shooter inside of the punch-hole cutout.

The Motorola S30 Pro runs Android 12 with MyUI 4.0 on top, the MyUI is a heavy skin made for the Chinese market. A possible global variant will likely run vanilla Android 12. Moving on, the phone carries a 4,400 mAh battery with 68 W fast-charging support.

Pricing and Availability

The Motorola S30 Pro comes in Black and Blue colorways. The latter has a stylish faux leather finish. The phone’s base variant has a price of CNY 1,999 which is $326. This is an amazing price considering the Snapdragon 888+ capabilities, 5G connectivity, and the panel. The top tier model has a CNY 2,899 price which means $430. Of course, due to VAT, the price for Europe may vary once the device gets released across global markets.
