Making a smart TV is not as simple as you might think. It should come with a good panel, plus a powerful chip. Current smart TVs do. And we have to admit that MediaTek plays a big role in this niche. Today, the latter released a new chip for TVs, the Pentonic 1000. This SoC can provide up to 4K content at a 120Hz refresh rate. At the same time, it supports Wi-Fi 6/6E, MEMC, Dolby Vision IQ, etc. Also, due to it, you can plug up to 8 screens into the source, and they will display content simultaneously.

Key Features Of Pentonic 1000

MediaTek didn’t disclose all features of the Pentonic 1000. But we know that the latter comes with a CPU that integrates multiple cores. Also, the GPU has two cores. There is also an APU (AI Processing Unit) and video decoding engines.

When playing games, it will provide up to 4K 144Hz performance. We also like the new mode, called Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). This chip supports various formats, such as AV1, HEVC, VP9, and even VVC or H.266.

“We designed the MediaTek Pentonic 1000 specifically to accommodate today’s smart TV trends, including 4K streaming, cloud gaming, video conferencing, and watch parties,” said Alex Chen, General Manager of the TV Business Unit at MediaTek. “With support for 4K HDR content, 120Hz frame rates, MEMC, AI enhancements, Wi-Fi 6/6E connectivity, and cutting-edge codecs like VVC, Pentonic 1000 will deliver the ultimate 4K viewing experience.”

From the features mentioned above, there is every reason to think it is a very powerful chip for TVs. MediaTek added an Intelligent View technology, which allows users to browse TV channels, previewing a stream or another channel. You can even be on a call with someone at the same time. Of course, it’s not for everyone. But the power user should like this feature.

The first TVs with this chip onboard will appear on the market in the first quarter of 2023.
