15-inch MacBook Air to come with Apple M2

MacBook Air

While most Apple Mac enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for a new Mac Pro featuring an Apple M-series chip, it seems that Apple is more interested in updating the MacBook family. There are new reports today regarding the future 15-inch MacBook Air. As per a Taiwanese supply chain publication DigiTimes, it seems that the upcoming MacBook will come in the second quarter of 2023. That means anytime between April and June. This upcoming laptop will bring an Apple M2 series CPU.

As per the report, industry sources point to the start of mass production of the 15-inch MacBook Air after the Lunar Year. The new laptop will come in the second quarter of this year. That will be a new update for the Apple MacBook Air family. To those unaware, the giant unveiled the 13-inch MacBook Air with the Apple M2 chip in July 2022. It boasts a 5nm process and brings a series of improvements over the first, very successful, Apple M1 series. For some analysts, this chip was a stopgap ahead of the Apple M3 series chip. The new lineup will bring real upgrades with the new 3nm architecture. The Apple M3 is ready and should arrive sometime this year.

The report states that Apple may also launch another MacBook Air later this year with Apple M3. That sounds unusual but is not impossible. As per the sources, the recently-released 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models were originally planned with the Apple M3. However, Apple changed its plans and equipped them with the Apple M2 and M2 Max.

Interestingly, yesterday, display analyst Ross Young revealed that Apple’s supply chain started production of 15-inch panels for the Air. Ross previously pointed to the launch of a new MacBook Air in April. Considering the number of reports, it seems plausible to expect the new MacBook Air for Q2 2023. Worth noting that this will be the biggest-even MacBook Air. So far, Apple has been sticking with 11-inch and 13-inch models. Perhaps, the company noticed the demand as the user needs are constantly changing.
