Xiaomi Civi 3 coming soon with Dimensity 8200 Ultra

The Xiaomi Civi series gained special popularity despite being a China-exclusive lineup. In a way, these phones are successors to Xiaomi’s former CC series, the fruit of Xiaomi’s acquisition of camera-centric Meitu. The Xiaomi Civi phones are stylish devices with appeal to young people and that have powerful cameras. The Xiaomi Civi 3 is on the way, and apparently, it will also bring a decent performance bump over its predecessors. The phone has been confirmed as the first handset to pack the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultra.

Dimensity 8200 Ultra and a new ISP

Dimesity 8200

This is not the first time we see a custom version of an existing Dimensity chip. Similar to the older Dimensity 8100 MAX, this version of the Dimensity 8200 Ultra may have a higher clock frequency. The Dimensity 8200 was launched in December last year with a 4nm manufacturing process and ARM Cortex-A78 cores. The Dimensity 8200 has a 1 x ARM Cortex-A78 core clocked at 3.1 GHz, 3 x ARM Cortex-A78 cores at 3.0 GHz, and 4 x ARM Cortex-A55 cores at up to 2.0 GHz. We assume that the Ultra will boost these clock speeds further. We may also see a clock boost for the Mali-G610 MC6 GPU.

Xiaomi Civi 3

Besides the new chipset, Xiaomi also confirmed on Weibo, an all-new ISP (Image Signal Processing) for the Xiaomi Civi 3. These include reduced power consumption in the camera app, accelerated shooting speed, and up to 30 new video functions, which will be detailed at a later point. Again, one of the focuses of the Xiaomi Civi series is the camera. Xiaomi will certainly put a load of interesting features in the device. We would not be surprised to see Leica tuning on these cameras considering the company’s partnership with the lens maker.

The Xiaomi Civi 3 could introduce a new back design to make it different from its predecessor. We also expect it to sell in multiple color options, after all, style is part of this lineup. Considering this series’ appeal, Xiaomi will likely keep sharing teasers to build anticipation. We will keep an eye out for new teasers.

Xiaomi Civi 3

There is still no launch date, but once time that the first teasers are out, we can expect the launch date to be revealed soon. We won’t be surprised to see it being launched in late May, but if this doesn’t happen, we believe it could appear in June. The Xiaomi Civi 2 costs about CNY 2,925 ($415), and we expect the Xiaomi Civi 3’s to be in the same territory, between $350 and $450. Of course, that will depend on the storage and RAM options.

In terms of global availability, the Xiaomi Civi series is exclusive to China. However, we won’t be surprised to see this phone being rebranded in the future.
