Nokia 2.1 now receiving Android 9.0 Pie (Go Edition) update

Earlier this year HMD Global released Android Pie update road map for some of its smartphone operating on older OS versions. One of the phones due for Q1 was the Nokia 2.1 and as per the recent tip from Juho Sarvikas, the Chief Product Officer of HMD Global, the Android Pie update is now rolling out to the Nokia 2.1. The Nokia 6 earlier this week started receiving the OS update, and there are more to come.

Juho Sarvikas, the Chief Product Officer of HMD Global took to his Twitter page to break the news and is coming right about the time the firm is expected to unveil the flagship Nokia 9, a few mid-rangers and probably an entry-level Android Go phone at the MWC.

The Nokia 2.1 was announced back in 2018 running Android 8.1 Oreo Go edition, so the latest update takes the OS version to the latest version of Googles latest OS - the Android 9 Pie (Go Edition), making the device one of the first Android Go Edition phones to get Pie update, though there are a couple of phone booting the OS out of the box.

For those not in the know, the Android Go is a lightweight edition of Googles original Android OS designed for entry-level smartphones. It first launched under the Oreo OS, but Google has since released the Pie version of the Go OS, touting it as a more efficient version bringing additional storage, faster boot times, better security, among other things.
