Apple has unveiled the iPhone 17 family, and their global prices are already making headlines. Pre-orders open on September 12 in 63 countries, including the US, UK, Germany, France, India, China, South Korea, Canada, and Australia. The first units will ship a week later on September 19. A second wave of 22 markets will join on September 26.

iPhone 17: No Longer the “Basic” Option

The regular iPhone 17 feels very different this year. For the first time, Apple gave it the same screen features as the Pros: 120Hz refresh, Always-On mode, ProRes video, and a less reflective display. Everyday users now get more value without having to buy a Pro.
Storage is also doubled. The iPhone 17 starts at 256 GB, just like the Pro and Air. Prices stay the same in the US, UK, Germany, and China. That means buyers there get twice the storage at no extra cost. In India and Japan, though, prices are higher.

Pro Models: Higher Price, More Storage

The iPhone 17 Pro also starts with 256 GB of storage. But unlike the base iPhone, its price has gone up. It costs about $100/€100/£100 more than last year’s model. Once you compare storage options, however, the difference is smaller than it looks.

The Pro Max does not see much change. It already came with 256 GB as the base option last year. Prices remain steady in most countries. The exception is India and Japan, where the Pro Max carries a noticeable premium.

iPhone Air: The Plus, Reimagined

Apple has retired the iPhone Plus. In its place comes the new iPhone Air. And this is not just a rebrand. The Air looks and feels more premium, with ProMotion, a slimmer build, and a Pro-class chipset.
It does cost more. In the US, it starts at $999, which is $100 higher than the old Plus. But the price also includes double the storage. Buyers get 256 GB as standard, which helps justify the increase.

iPhone 17 Prices Across Key Markets

Here’s a snapshot of official pricing:

iPhone 17$799€949£799₹82,900¥5,999¥129,800
iPhone Air$999€1,199£999₹119,900¥7,999¥159,800
iPhone 17 Pro$1,099€1,299£1,099₹134,900¥8,999¥179,800
Pro Max$1,199€1,449£1,199₹149,900¥9,999¥194,800

Why Prices Vary by Country

Apple’s pricing is rarely the same across markets. Taxes, import duties, and currency rates make a big difference. Germany and the UK have VAT built into the price. India adds heavy import duties, which explains why iPhones cost more there. Japan has also been hit hard by currency changes, pushing prices higher than usual.
In contrast, US prices often look lower. That’s because sales tax is added at checkout, not in the advertised price.

More Than Just Phones

The September event was not only about iPhones. Apple also introduced three new watches: the Watch Series 11, the SE 3, and the rugged Watch Ultra 3. Still, the iPhone 17 series stole the spotlight. With better displays, larger storage, and more consistent features, the line between “regular” and “Pro” is now thinner than ever.
