The very much anticipated
iPhone 17 series officially hit the public today, and it includes the
iPhone 17, iPhone Air,
iPhone 17 Pro, and
iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The Pro models come with a new
design, and you’ll notice that the iPhone Air has been introduced, taking the
place of the iPhone Plus. With these changes, it may be a quieter year for the
standard iPhone 17, but Apple still needs to impress if it wants to keep up
with its biggest rival, Samsung.
Closing
the Gap With Samsung
The iPhone 17 will face tough
competition from the Samsung Galaxy S25, which already feels like a more
advanced phone than last year’s iPhone 16. If Apple wants its newest model to
stand out, it will need to match or beat Samsung’s hardware and software.
Samsung has been pushing innovation for years, and Apple can’t afford to fall
behind.
A
Stronger Display Is a Must
One of the biggest areas Apple needs
to improve is the display, or the
iPhone 17 series will struggle to feel modern. Well, Apple did not disappoint as the iPhone 17 comes with a 120Hz screen.
Now, the new iPhones can finally compete with its Android peers. Many mid-range Android phones already use 120Hz screens, so it would have been a huge let-down if Apple did not make this upgrade.
Recall that two devices in the iPhone 16 series, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, are
still using a 60Hz screen. Thus, Apple fans did have some fears that the company would not upgrade. But alas, it did.
Better Value
for the Price
Over the years, iPhones have been
known for their premium and reliable software build, but due to the fact that
the cost of these devices is on the high side, fans are beginning to expect
more next-level features.
With the addition of the 120Hz screen, Apple can finally justify $799 price tag on the base model of this series.
Why
This Matters
Apple has a very
loyal fanbase, but it appears that the company is not taking them for granted. For Apple, it didn't need to go all out to
produce an iPhone 17 series different from its predecessors, but it had to
show its users that it was listening to their plights.
With the smoother screen now extending to the iPhone 17, the iPhone 17
series will go on to compete head-to-head with the Galaxy S25 series.
