Huawei Initiates 5G Technology Trials In Turin - Achieves 3Gbps Speeds

Last week, Chinese manufacturing giant, Huawei, collaborated with Italy's local mobile operators like TIM and Fastweb to initiate 5G technology testing in Turin, Italy. The company used an experimental setup bandwidth of 100MHz and achieved connectivity speeds of 3Gbps and a spectral efficiency of 30 bits/second/Hz. This result shows that Huawei's latest technology uses seven times less bandwidth and it's super fast. The company said

“Speed of connection, latency and efficiency in the use of the spectrum were the indicators object of the test of the first data connection, tested on a network chain end to end 5G including the terminal, the new radio access, and the core network.”...“The positive outcome of the first data connection sets the stage for the first site to be switched on in the coming weeks.”

Recall that TIM, Fastweb, and Huawei was granted 3.6 to 3.8 GHz frequencies by Ministry of Economic Department in Italy for G connectivity testing in cities like Bari and Matera. These tests are expected to continue as Huawei aims to unveil its first 5G cell site by June this year. By the end of 2019, Bari and Matera are expected to receive 100 percent 5G coverage while Vodafone Italy is on standby for the commercialization of 5G networks. The recent 3Gbps speed achieved by Huawei is higher than the 2 Gbps of 5G download speeds gotten in Vancouver, Canada where Huawei is collaborating with Telus. The Chinese manufacturer has said that it will be investing around $790 million in 5G R&D this year.
