If you’ve been waiting to try Oppo’s
new
ColorOS 16 or OnePlus’
OxygenOS 16, both built on Android 16, the
opportunity is finally here. The open beta programs are
now live, giving users
an early taste of what’s coming. But there’s a catch: you’ll need to prove
you’re eligible before you can join.
How to Join the Beta
Access to the beta isn’t as simple as tapping “download.” Oppo and OnePlus are running a short eligibility quiz first.
To find and join the beta program:
- Go to Settings
- Select System & Update
- Tap Software Update
- Tap the three-dot icon in the top corner
- Select Beta Program
- Complete the eligibility quiz
- If you pass, you’ll be able to install the update
The beta program is open to the latest flagship phones from Oppo and OnePlus, including:
- OnePlus 13
- OnePlus 13R
- OnePlus 13s
- OnePlus Open
- OnePlus 12
- OnePlus 12R
- Oppo Find X8
- Oppo Find X8 Pro
Note: Availability may vary depending on your region, so not everyone will get access right away.
What to Expect
As with most early test versions, these beta builds aren’t
meant for everyday use. You’ll likely run into a few bugs, slower performance,
or other small glitches. Both Oppo and OnePlus advise users to be careful and
avoid installing the beta on their main phone. Right now, the main aim is to
gather feedback from users and sort out any problems before the final version
is released.
Upcoming Launch Events
Oppo is set to fully reveal
ColorOS 16 on October
15, with OnePlus following a day later on October 16
to announce
OxygenOS 16. During those events, both brands are expected to share
more details about new features, design changes, and when the stable versions
will roll out.
Even though both systems are built on Android 16, each has
its own personality. But the ColorOS is expected to bring a fresher look with
smoother, more polished animations. OxygenOS will likely stick to its roots of
being fast, simple, and efficient, the same qualities that have made it a
favourite among longtime OnePlus users.
The
Road Ahead
The beta programs give users an early taste of what’s
coming next for Oppo and OnePlus phones before the stable versions are
officially released. After the official launch events, we’ll likely find out
when the final Android 16 updates will start reaching everyone’s devices.
For now, anyone who passes the eligibility test can get an
early feel for the new software and share their thoughts to help improve the
final release for everyone.
