Google offers Pixel Pro in a standard size alongside the Pro XL. Samsung has historically given buyers a binary choice: the large Plus or the even larger Ultra.
A 6.47-inch S27 Pro changes that. At that size, one-handed use becomes practical again for buyers who want flagship camera hardware and processing power without the 6.8-inch-plus chassis. The S27 Pro would be the first time Samsung explicitly acknowledges that some premium buyers actively want a smaller phone — not a compromise device, but a genuine flagship in a compact body.
Ultra Hardware in a Compact Package
The leaked spec sheet makes the Pro's positioning clear. Two hundred megapixels on the primary sensor, 50MP ultra-wide, and 50MP 5x periscope telephoto are Ultra-tier camera credentials. Samsung Privacy Display — the technology that restricts viewing angles to prevent shoulder surfing — arrives alongside the Ultra on the Pro as well. The next-generation Snapdragon chipset, expected to be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 or its Pro variant, completes the hardware story.
Dropping the S Pen is the obvious trade-off for the compact chassis.
The stylus requires physical housing inside the phone — adding volume and length that a 6.47-inch device can't easily absorb. Leaving the S Pen on the Ultra maintains a clear reason to pay more for the larger model.
Replacing the Edge
Samsung's Galaxy Edge series — built around extreme thinness — reportedly generated weaker-than-expected commercial demand. Buyers in the premium segment apparently prioritised hardware capability over slim profile when forced to choose. The S27 Pro represents a different take on the same underlying insight: premium buyers want something different from the Ultra, but they want capability first.
