Xiaomi have been selling
phones at near-production
cost for a while now. However, the revenues the upcoming
Chinese maker manages to rake in regardless might manage to stagger you.
Not long ago, Xiaomi revealed that there are more than
30 million active users of the MIUI ROM.
MIUI (pronounced "
me-you-eye") is Xiaomi's own take on the Android
OS, where they include various features and
apps not found in
vanilla Android.
MIUI developers maintain ROMs for various devices including non-Xiaomi ones. In return,
MIUI users make purchases on Xiaomi's ecosystem that includes services of a theme, app, book and
game store among others.
Although the profit from the aforementioned services comes predominantly from their homeland of China, Xiaomi have still managed to secure profits to the tune of $4.9 million/month which is bound to grow with time and recognition.
