Xiaomi Mi 12S / Pro Make Furror In Android Camp

Xiaomi is step by step approaching its goal. This company entered the premium smartphone market with the Mi 10 and continues surprising with every iteration. Like many other top brands, it follows the strategy of launching two flagship series in a year. As the Mi 12 was the flagship line of the company for the first half of the year, the newly-released Xiaomi Mi 12S series of smartphones will boost Xiaomi’s sales in the second half. The line includes three models. Though the Xiaomi Mi 12S Ultra was in the spotlight, let’s start with the Xiaomi Mi 12S / 12S Pro.

The entire series comes with three major upgrades:

Imaging system: comprehensive upgrade of composite sensor, lens, optical motor system;
Xiaomi Image Brain 2.0: a completely new image processing algorithm;
Open ecology: Xiaomi shares the progress of mobile imaging with the whole industry.

The Xiaomi Mi 12S / 12S Pro is available in 4 color options. The overall design is similar to the Xiaomi Mi 12 series. But this time, the company added the much-demanded white version.

Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Debuts

Inside, these two come with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. The latter reduces CPU power consumption by 33% and GPU power consumption by 30%. In effect, this chip can reach a benchmark score of over 1.1 million. Plus, this chipset boasts of dynamic performance scheduling technology.

Top-End Displays With No Upgrades

Another selling point of the Xiaomi 12S / 12S Pro is the display. It is consistent with the previous generation. Thus, though there is no improvement in terms of screen parameters, it’s considered to be one of the best displays on the market.

As for parameters, the Xiaomi Mi 12S’ display has a 2400×1080 resolution and uses an OLED material. The peak brightness of the display is 1100 nits. Apart from this, it supports a 120Hz refresh rate, a 480Hz touch sampling rate, a 12bit color depth, a 16,000-level dimming, etc. Also, this screen has a Corning Victus protective glass, adds a P3 color gamut support, JNCD≈0.29, deltaE≈0.36, 60Hz DC-like dimming and many more. Even if you do not understand what most of these features mean, just know that they are almost the ceiling in the Android camp.

As for the Xiaomi Mi 12S Pro, it sports a 6.73-inch 3200×1400 Samsung E5 AMOLED screen. The latter boasts of a 1500nits brightness, 120Hz refresh rate, support for LTPO 2.0, 480Hz touch sampling rate, 10bit color depth, front and rear dual light perception, Corning Victus protective glass, P3 color gamut, JNCD≈0.34, deltaE≈0.33, support low-frequency flicker mode, and many more.

Battery and Charging

Another interesting feature of these two is the battery. Though they have almost identical capacities of 4500mAh and 4600mAh, respectively, the charging speeds are different. The Mi 12S supports 67W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W wireless reverse charging. At the same time, the Xiaomi Mi 12S Pro supports a 120W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W wireless reverse charging.

Xiaomi Focuses On Camera More

As said above, the camera is the biggest highlight of this series. The Xiaomi Mi 12S / 12S Pro has upgraded the wide-angle main camera sensor to the Sony IMX707. It has a 50MP resolution, a 1/1.28-inch super-large bottom, and reaches 2.4um pixels after four-in-one compression. The amount of incoming light is increased by 49%.

In addition, there is also a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens as well as a telephoto/macro lens. The front camera has a 32MP resolution, which is ideal for selfies and video calls. By the way, the latter supports native beauty portrait shooting.

Apart from the new algorithm, it also comes with a CyberFocus tracking system. The phones support a 30fps lightning continuous shooting. The rest of the noteworthy camera features include Leica Summicron Certification, Leica Classic, Leica Vivid Dual Picture Style, built-in Leica Natural, Leica Vivid, Leica Monochrome, Leica Monochrome HC 4 Leica filters, etc.

Bonus: Xiaomi Mi 12S Pro Dimensity 9000 Version

Besides the so-called Snapdragon variant, the company also released the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ version of the Xiaomi Mi 12S Pro.

It is available in two colors only and the camera is not tuned by Leica. However, the phone has a few advantages over the Snapdragon version, such as the battery capacity of 5160mAh. Unfortunately, the charging speed is reduced to 67W.

Like the abovementioned two, this one also comes with a 50MP Sony IMX707 main camera sensor and 13MP and 5MP sensors.

By the way, the Dimensity 9000+ adopts Arm's v9 CPU architecture and 4nm octa-core process. Due to them, the CPU performance is increased by 5% and GPU performance by 10%. In GeekBench 5, it scored 1322 points and 4331 points in the single-core and multi-core tests, respectively.

The frequency of the Cortex-X2 large core has been increased from 3.05GHz of the Dimensity 9000 to 3.2GHz. Plus, there are three Cortex-A710 cores and four Cortex-A510 cores. It also integrates an Arm Mali-G710 MC10 graphics processor.
