Zopo ZP980 5-inch 1080 phone hands on video

Zopo are about to enter the fiercely competitive quad-core, 1080 market with the all new Zopo ZP980. The phone was only leaked last month yet production ready models are already showing up.

Zopo are one of the few Chinese phone makers which keeps their latest Android smartphones completely under wraps up until they are ready to launch. The Zopo ZP980 is a great example of this as we only received spy photos of the phone late last month and now this hands on video has turned up.

Overpriced…Too much overpriced actually…Andi you should let them know that UMi is offering better specs at less prices..However Zopo is better in quality but still there is a big difference…

Lovely, but such a shame about the battery… Just 2000mah :/

Well, as i’ve wrote to the previous Andi’s post regarding the zp980, i believe it’s priced $50 more than it should. Moreover, it seems as Zopo did again the same mistake as with the Zp300 field (mt6575 version). Pushed the chipset to the limits – it’s clear the mt6589 is not powerful enough and it will struggle with the FHD as the mt6575 was struggling with (great quality screen but…laggy as hell..) the qHD 720p resolution.
Apart of that, i’m a great fan of Zopo’s build quality. Have a zp900 for 9 months and just bought the zp910. I’ll wait the next generation of mediatek chipset for my next phone. Note that for the Mt6589 it was initially reported that is will support dual 3G but it didn’t deliver.
Let’s hope that mt6599 will bring us that because having 3G+GSM dual sim nowadays it’s not dualsim at all i’m afraid.

PS: just found out that on Zopo’s support forum, an 4.2.1 (3d party modded release) for the Zp910 update was anounced by Zopo support staff. 😀

overpriced ! ill not buy it at all

will i buy this ? NO! I simply cannot fathom what use a 2000mah phone would be to me though, i would have thought of buying this phone for its current price had it had a 3000+ mah battery and 2GB ram though i have heard that zopo’s are relatively better built and higher quality.

Nevertheless, i like one thing about zopo is they did no stupid hype with any 2 gb ram phones, they came and they delivered the 1gb models silently. Where as other brands simply overhype shit and then simply dont deliver, which eventually sort of gets to you.

    Hi Andy,

Does zp980 cost the same (in yuan) as USD 350 for someone to buy it inside China?

can any of all the people calling this phone way overpriced tell me where can i get a phone with same specs (MTK6859, FHD screen, 16Gb ROM etc.) significantly cheaper than this?

Umi X2 at uredeal is at $336 (pre-order only, availability: nobody knows).

Neo N003 is being offered at $360 (pre-order, nobody knows abt its availability either).

iOcean X7 has become a mystery in itself for me. Android-sale mentions it as $199 but aren’t taking any pre-orders unless they get it in stock, they themselves state that the mentioned price is not definite, they’ll confirm it when the phone is available. Dhgate/Aliexpress offer rates, around $260 but then again, the phone is not in stock!

i’ve been spending a hell lot of hours day n night to get myself any of these, but it seems zp980 is the only option left!

since i have a friend of mine in shanghai these days, i thought he might be able to get his hands on the zp980 at a cheaper price in yuan than the international price of $350 with the idea that zopo must at least have a store in their country’s largest populated city, but to my surprise, they don’t! i even read on the zopomobileshop.com’s zp980 page where somebody asked them the same, they said np, we’ll deliver it to u in shanghai at $350. now wot use is that to somebody inside china? saving of the delivery time is all i can think of (sigh)!

      • April 10, 2013

Yep no Zopo stores in Shanghai, but plenty in Shenzhen.
