iOcean X7 Youth gets a quietly updated to MT6589T Turbo spec!

iOcean have made a surprise update to the youth version of the iOcean X7, and are now offering the phone with a faster quad-core chipset!

iOcean are striving to be a stand-out Chinese phone maker and as such are taking steps to launch and update their phones ahead of the rest. They were the first to launch a 5-inch 1080 Mediatek powered phone earlier this year, the first to sell a flagship 2GB Turbo phone and now one of the first to update it’s youth model to Turbo spec.

Gizchina News of the week

The new iOcean X7 Youth Turbo has the exact same hardware as the previously available non-turbo model but with the faster 1.5Ghz quad-core MT6589T processor. A small price increase from 999 Yuan to 1099 Yuan has also been made.

In other news, the successor to the iOcean X7 (possibly X8) is currently in development and will likely support NFC and boast a 6-inch 1080 panel!

Dude it depends which phone, which supplier u buy from and which post method you choose. For example I chose to buy an iOcean X7 Elite for $295 plus DHL shipping so a total of $305. That should be INR18300. So go find out which phone, supplier and shipping method, add them up and convert the price to indian rupees man.

Looks like the MT6589T has less problems with hardwareconfigurations then the standard MT6589.
Especially handling 2GB instead of 1GB seems to be much easier.

It would also be interesting to see a comparison between screen resolution vs speed vs battery life with these newer MT6589T’s.

Eg. It’s been mentioned elsewhere that the update from the original MT6589 brings 20% better battery life in general, but that on the older chip the processor is slowwed down by roughly ‘20%’ where a 1080p display was fitted versus a 720p display.

It would be fantastic if a Chinese factory or entrepreneur were to start making tempered GLASS screen protectors for some of the more popular Chinese phones; Zopo, jiayu, I-ocean etc. I’m sure whoever did that would make a killing!

Such screen guards are coming through for Apple, Samsung and others on ebay.com etc. (in the West) to cover phones that already have gorilla glass!!
(and you can’t just ‘cut’ them down obiously, like the plastic ones)

It would be a great ‘optional’ upgrade that didn’t inflate the base price for Chinese users/ manufacturers, whilst increasing user confidence in China Phones.

An interim measure (at least) until some of these manufacturers get their backsides into gear re: screen durability and unfortunate stories like Frank’s keep on coming around time and again! 🙁
