Beidou Red Pepper is one of the best looking $130 phones we have seen so far!

Believe it or not, but there is still room in China for another $130 quad-core machine, and this one is by far the best looking we have seen yet! Full details of the Beidou Red Pepper here!

Beidou are no stranger to the sub 1000 Yuan phone market. The first phone they launched was the worlds cheapest dual-core phone when launched 2 years ago, and was quickly followed by a number of quad-core models.

The Beidou Red Pepper, though is not only the best looking Beidou phone to date, but it is also one of the better designed $130 phones we have seem so far! Before drooling over the body, let’s take a look at the hardware. Up front there is a 5-inch 1280 x 720 display, a quad-core MT6582 processor and 1GB RAM take care of performance and 13 mega-pixel rear, 5 mega-pixel front cameras are just what we like to see on affordable smartphones!

Gizchina News of the week

beidou red pepper

On to the design, well the Red Pepper sure doesn’t look like a $130 phone, and (in our opinion) is much better looking than what Xiaomi, Huawei or iOcean have to offer. Narrow bezels and little overhang top and bottom ensure a compact size of 143.3 x 70.3 x 8.7mm, while the patterned rear reminds us of the UMi Cross and Nexus 4.

The retail price for the Beidou Red Pepper will go on sale for 799 Yuan, but 1000 units of the phone will be on sale for only 698 Yuan as a limited offer.

Micromax and Xolo, put your badge on this phone, import it into India, and don’t forget to charge $200 for it.

Please dont fall into the “super thin bezel”-trap just because of some pre-production CAD makeups…

If you compare the given dimensions of this phone (143.3 x 70.3 x 8.7mm) with the dimensions of the THL T100S (144.3 x 70.4 x 8.4mm) which you just reviewd, you will see that is is virtually no difference!

The width does differ by a marginal 0.1mm and both have a 5inch 16:9 display so the bezels wont be noticably thinner than the ones on the T100S (which isnt particually small/thin).

Overall the design of the Beidou Red Pepper is very average and boring to me… looks like a Nexus device which I dont really like.
Hardware is good for the price but there are so many 5inch HD / MT6582 / 1GB+4GB alternatives for the same budget…

MT6582 processor can support only 8 Mega pixel camera. So, what it is such an excitement about a 13 mega pixel interpolated camera with only 8 megapixel real size?

      Indeed the phone looks nice.

I think the best looking and spec (if OTG, NFC and AIR GESTURE work) is the INew V3. I have seen somewhere you can get it delivered for $180 with a spare battery and protective case.
