Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus taking the Redmi Note 5’s place?

Redmi 5

The Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus by Xiaomi saw the light of day on the 7th of December, with no indication as to when we will get to see the Redmi Note 5. But a Super Moderator on the MIUI forum said that it might not happen since the Redmi 5 Plus has taken its place.

According to “mitch002”, Xiaomi is dropping the “Note” tag in the Redmi line of devices, period, and the Redmi 5 Plus will be the only big screen phone in the Redmi series. He said,

Gizchina News of the week

“The wait is finally over, Xiaomi has finally decided to release the Redmi Note 5, wait!!! I heard its called the Redmi 5 Plus? No kidding?? There was a name change? Well yes folks, the 2 new Redmi Note sized phones are named Redmi 5 for the 5.7″ and Redmi 5 Plus for the 5.99″. What will happen to the successor of the Redmi 4X which is supposed to be a 5″ Redmi 5? No one knows, but as of the moment, Xiaomi has decided to drop the Note name on their 5.7″ sized budget phones. It has been quite a year and 3 months in the waiting for all of us Redmi fans from all over the world”

There is no official confirmation from Xiomi regarding the same, so we advise you take this news with a pinch of salt.

I prefer to believe in the version stating that device will be released in the beginning of next year with sd636.

As long as nothing is comfirmed officialy i think there is still a chance. If we dont hear anything about Note series till the end of Janury next year then we can say bye-bye to this beloved series.

Mitch is retarded prick. Moderator’s on the MiUI forums don’t know a shit about device’s maintenance/production. Would be a very stupid to kill the all time’s best seller.

They way I see it is the merging of redmi, redmi note and mi max series, since with the introduction of 6″ 18:9 screens there is no such difference. So my speculation would be that, Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus replaced the whole Redmi and Redmi Note series. And If the want to keep their phones divided by screen size in sections, my guess would be redmi, redmi 5 plus and then 2 mi max versions (one pure mid-tier phone and a mid-high version one). These two mi max phones would go with sd630(for lite version) and sd636 or sd660 (for mid-high end version / I doubt sd660 will be used). That’s only a guess though…

Sounds just about right, I mean, just look at what Samsung did with it’s A series, they squeezed the whole line to just 2 phones and added a plus on the bigger one, just as Xiaomi did. I think it’s a good move for Xiaomi to clean up it’s portifo of smartphones. Just look at what happened to the Mi Mix and the Mi Note, the Mi Mix 2 took what was essentially the Mi note status leaving the Mi Note 3 without a proper place in their space and so they had to tone down the Mi Note so as to differentiate it from the premium Mi Mix. Also look at what happened to the Galaxy note 8 and the S8+, most people will tell you that it’s basically thr the same phone save for dual Cameras, stylus pen and smaller battery, only, more expensive, and to be honest, it becomes a bit confusing to the consumer.

But at the same time, I doubt this is the case. Following massive success and a huge fan base, I doubt Xiaomi would kill off the note series just like that without any warning to the highly anticipating followers like my self. The Redmi 5+ would be a good redmi note 4 successor, save for the chip ( oh my God Xiaomi move on now!! Upgrade to 630 or 636 already!!) But there’s something about that tittle of Redmi NOTE that won’t go away nor be quenched by a redmi +. But again, this could be the perfect opportunity to Marry the more premium redmi pro and all it’s pros, [am thinking dual Camera, shinier finish and USB-C, slightly more powerful chip, am thinking SD636 and hopeful for the SD660, more RAM/ROM combination (6GB/128GB)] to the beloved note series. This would clearly distinguish it from the redmi series, at least for another year or two. and like Samsung did with their Note, increase the screen size by 1″, just for better distinction. Do all this and the Redmi NOTE 5 will be a winner.

I was also thinking of making it bigger, but then again, we have the Mi Max, so the screen shouldn’t grow any further otherwise it will render the Mi max irrelevant, or the vice versa. The age of 18*9 has brought a new constrain. The screen size will no longer be a huge factor in the phone personality and so earlier models that were easy to sell by adjusting screen sizes and leaving everything else intact will need to look elsewhere to differentiate each model from the other. I look everyday at my Redmi note 3 pro and wonder who will succeed it. Let’s wait and see.

it’s xiaomi’s biggest seller and they gonna ditch it? this is most likely a plot so consumers just might settle to get the 5 plus instead of waiting for the note 5.

If “the wait is finally over” then it is time to move on.

I’ve been flirting with Smartisan nut pro 2 lately. It has all the specs we’ve been expecting from a Redmi note 5 but I have doubts about ROM support and due to limited resellers it comes with higher than the expected from xiaomi pricetag

do that and lose the budget market, this will be a grave and FATAL error in Market Judgment

mark my words, xiaomi and anyone else concerned !
