Samsung Galaxy Active Rugged Smartphone Render Images Surfaces Online

Apart from the powerful flagship and budget-focused smartphones, Samsung has few of the rugged devices in its portfolio. The smartphone maker recently unveiled its Galaxy XCover 4s rugged smartphone. It seems like the South Korean-based company is set to launch yet another smartphone to its robust lineup. This time we’re looking at the Samsung Galaxy Active which is believed to be a ruggedized version of Galaxy S9.

For those who’re unaware, Samsung Galaxy Active was first spotted at MWC earlier this year. Since then, there was no knowledge of the device whatsoever. Surprisingly, we now have the leaked render images of the smartphone giving us bits of information and of course, the complete design.

This report comes courtesy of Android Headlines. As per the leaked render images, the Galaxy Active doesn’t look anything like the Galaxy S9. In fact, the smartphone features a massive traditional thick bezel with uncommon physical navigation buttons. What makes this device a counterpart of the flagship Galaxy S9 is its hardware and configuration. It seems like the Galaxy Active is the company’s take on the rugged look and feel while still resembling the Galaxy S counterparts to some extent. At the back, you can see the same single camera module but now the fingerprint sensor is moved towards the left side of the camera. Considering the render images, the device looks like any other rugged smartphone from the company.

Gizchina News of the week

Under the hood, the Galaxy Active is expected to run on the Exynos 9810 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM. To make this device handier, Samsung decided to go with the smaller screen size i.e. 5.2-inch to be exact. There is no word whether the device will make use of the AMOLED panel or not. The device is backed by a larger 4,500mAh battery capacity with no details on charging speed as of now. Generally, the Active smartphones from Samsung come with a removable battery so we might see the same in this device. Samsung Galaxy Active is a smartphone which is not designed for a general consumer market. It is repurposed keeping in mind the rugged use of government and agency such as the fire or police departments.

Expected Launch Date, Availability

If you look at the leaked images carefully, you will find the two key information about the device giving us a hint on its availability. It seems like the smartphone is going to first run on the AT&T platform. Above all, the render highlights the “August 9” launch date suggesting that the device might see its official unveiling sooner than we think. Samsung might launch the smartphone on its Galaxy Note 10 launch along with Galaxy Tab S6 and Watch Active 2. Although this information should be taken with a pinch of salt since there is yet no official word on the launch date. Talking about the availability, the smartphone should first hit the US market considering the previous trends. In fact, we might not even see this device going globally.
