Motorola RAZR 3 with Snapdragon 8 Gen1+ launch timeline revealed

Motorola RAZR 3

Motorola started its venture in the segment of foldable devices with a revisit to the past. The company brought back the RAZR lineup and brought the world’s first clamshell smartphone. It was an appeal to nostalgia, but unfortunately, the specs were far from impressive. The device didn’t look like a modern smartphone, and the battery life was also lackluster. Another of the shortcomings was the Snapdragon 7xx processor in the first model which made it a super expensive mid-range foldable smartphone. Despite this, the company continued the lineup with the Moto RAZR 2 and now is preparing the terrain for a Motorola RAZR 3 foldable device.

Leaked images reveal “a revolutionized” design

Worth noting, that Motorola is yet to disclose any details regarding the new foldable. However, new info has emerged straight from the reputed leakster Evan Blass and 91Mobiles. The source has revealed the launch timeline of the new foldable smartphone. Worth noting, that Evan has already shared a couple of live images showing the phone’s design a few days ago. Now, it’s time to have some info regarding the possible launch date.

According to the leak, the Motorola RAZR 3 or Moto RAZR 3 will reach the market soon. According to Blass, the phone will reach the Chinese market in late July or early August. The device will also reach global markets but the launch timeline for the West hasn’t been revealed. Interestingly, Motorola will launch its foldable in two distinct colorways Quartz Black and Tranquil Blue.

Those who never enjoyed the phone’s design should be happier with the new variant. As per the report, Motorola is changing core design elements. The device will be close to the Galaxy Z Flip series. The Motorola RAZR 3 leaked image shows a square-ish design rather than the retro-style previous models. Another good news is that the large chin is gone to offer a bezel-less screen effect. Motorola will bring the fingerprint scanner in the power button. The leaked shot also shows a punch-hole camera at the top.

Motorola RAZR 3 alleged specifications

The Motorola RAZR 3 will bring a dual-camera setup on the back. There is an LED flash module next to the camera sensors. According to Evan Blass, the foldable RAZR has a 50 MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture. There will also be a 13 MP secondary shooter probably for ultrawide angle shots. There is a 32 MP selfie snapper at the punch-hole. The specs of the display are not exactly known. For example, we don’t know what will be the display’s diagonal when unfolded.

The Motorola RAZR 3 a Full HD+ resolution, and we expect a high refresh rate. It could impress everyone with a 144 Hz since this has been a predominant rate for Motorola flagships. The company is said to be working on two models. There is one with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, and another one with the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+. The latter will also boost the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra which is said to be Motorola’s second flagship for 2022 and will bring a 200 MP camera. There will be multiple RAM and Storage versions, the base model has 8 GB of RAM, whereas the top variant will have 12 GB of RAM.

Snapdragon 8 Gen1+ can make it the world’s most powerful foldable handset

Given the possible postponement of the Snapdragon 8 Gen1+, we may see the more powerful variant only towards Q3 2022 or even in early Q4 2022. Of course, this is mere speculation, considering the rumors of a Snapdragon 8 Gen1+ delay. Anyway, we’re not expecting a huge delay, after all, by the end of the year, Qualcomm will be moving on to the next generation. The Snapdragon 8 Gen1+, to those unaware, is TSMC’s version of the SD8Gen 1 and brings a slightly tweaked performance. It can potentially make the Motorola RAZR 3 the most powerful foldable handset of 2022. Unless that Samsung also manages to bring its foldable phones with this very same chip.
