BOE is a renowned manufacturer of displays. The company, namely Beijing Oriental Electronics, has been a solid partner for Apple in the manufacturing of iPhone OLED displays. As usual, the company has been behind a large amount of iPhone 13 OLED displays. It was a strong candidate for iPhone 14 OLED display supply. However, the deal with Apple is about to be canceled. The company has reportedly struck a deal with Apple to supply OLED panels for the upcoming iPhone 14 series. However, a new report from the South Korean news outlet The Elec says that the company is yet to receive Apple approval for the iPhone 14 displays. If this approval does not come, then BOE will lose the order of about 30 million OLED screens for the 2022 iPhones.
According to the report, the reason behind this is that BOE unilaterally changes the design of the circuit width of the iPhone 13 OLED panels. Apparently, the move was to increase the yield rate. However, this resulted in Apple asking BOE to halt the production of the panels. The production of the iPhone 13 OLED panels by BOE has been halted since February, and The Elec reports that the display maker even sent a C-level executive joined by a few employees to Apple’s HQ. The company tried to explain to Apple the reasons behind the design changes that were made in a unilateral form. BOE is asking Apple to approve the production of OLED panels for iPhone 14. However, it is yet to get a clear response from Apple.

Apple has been working hard to reduce the dependence it has on Samsung Display and LG Display. The company wants to increase and diversify the number of suppliers. With many suppliers, the company will get the ability to bargain for better prices. The iPhones have been selling like hotcakes, therefore, it’s common to see suppliers fighting for the company’s preference. Perhaps, we won’t see this growing competition in 2022. After all, BOE is unable to keep producing iPhone 13 OLED screens nor has the approval for iPhone 14 OLED displays. As a result, we may see Samsung and LG Display getting these orders for 30 million panels.

As far as the iPhones are concerned, Apple will launch four models – iPhone 14, 14 Max, 14 Pro, and Pro Max. The big difference comes from the iPhone 14 Max.
