Motorola Razr 2023 has been teased with higher refresh rate

Motorola is gearing up to introduce a new generation for its refreshed Moto Razr series. The company’s foldable lineup had a rough start with the strange-looking Moto RAZR 2019. The brand realized that the nostalgia was not enough to sell the phone. In the last year, it brought the Moto RAZR 2022 with a modern design, more in line with current clamshell foldable phones. Now, the brand seems to be ready to unveil the next generation, the Motorola RAZR 2023. The brand published a new teaser for the upcoming foldable that teases an evolution in the refresh rate.

Considering this teaser, we expect the phone to bring a 144Hz refresh rate. After all, the current foldables and even the RAZR 2022 are stuck in the 120 Hz. In fact, Motorola is one of the few brands that keep pushing 144 Hz with its flagships. Now, this smooth rate is about to come with the brand’s Motorola RAZR 2023. We just don’t know if that will be enough to make the Moto RAZR 2023 an appealing choice this year.

Motorola RAZR 2023 alleged specs – is it an upgrade?

The Motorola RAZR 2023 packs a 6.7-inch 1080p panel. Under the hood, the device is rumored to bring the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. If that is the case, then we will not see an upgrade in performance when compared to the last year’s model. There are still chances of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. That would make the Moto RAZR 2023 the first clamshell foldable with this chipset. Otherwise, we will have to wait for the Galaxy Z Flip5 to see a clamshell foldable with this year’s flagship SoC.

Moving on, there is another issue with the upcoming device. Some rumors point to a downgrade in the battery capacity to 2,850 mAh. That would be a serious mistake in my humble opinion. After all, the first generations had low battery capacity. Motorola improved it with the Moto RAZR 2022 and its 3,500 mAh battery. In the best scenario, we will see the upcoming model with a close capacity. The smaller battery would be to fit a larger outer screen.

In fact, it’s a little soon to take conclusions on the specs. At the same point that the Motorola RAZR 2023 sounds like a downgrade in some aspects, there are rumors of a beefed variant. That one could come as Moto RAZR+ 2023, or Pro, or maybe Ultra. So, this device that, on paper, looks worse, could be a cheaper model. The company is also expected to launch a Motorola Edge 40 Ultra soon, and we expect to hear more about it in the future.
