Google Resolves Pink Text Bug on Pixel 8 Pro Always-On Screen

Pixel 8 Pro

Soon after the Pixel 8 Pro was released, users noticed an issue with its always-on display. This issue caused text to appear discolored, often in a pink hue. Google has now confirmed that a solution for this problem is in the works and will be released soon. Many users who purchased the Pixel 8 Pro shortly after its release reported an issue with the always-on display. They observed that text on the display would sometimes appear discolored.  The discoloration appears as a pink or yellow hue at the edges of the text. This problem did not occur when the display was fully lit. According to the reports, users usually notice this issue when Always on Display feature is in use.

Comments from Some Users with the Always-On-Display Issue

On Google’s Issue Tracker platform, many users came out to report on the same issue with the Always-on-Display of the Pixel 8 Pro. One user wrote:

Also on mine. Only really visible in dark at low AOD brightness, but then it’s very noticeable, at right and bottom especially. Considering how hard it’s to notice, It’s say this is much me prevalent than it would seem.

Although the issue didn’t impact all users, it was quite widespread during the first week after the Pixel 8 Pro’s release. Fortunately, Google has also noticed the issue and is actively addressing the problem. Google has officially confirmed in a comment on the Issue Tracker that a fix is on the way for this problem in an upcoming Android update. However, the exact timing of this fix’s release remains uncertain, as it could be included in a monthly security patch or a more substantial update, such as QPR1. In a release note, Google said:

Marked as fixed. The issue has been fixed and it will become available in a future Android release. Please keep an eye on the release notes

Expected Release Date for the Fixed Pixel 8 Pro Always-On-Display Bug Pixel 8 Pro

The first maintenance release for Android 14 is scheduled for release in December. However, there’s a possibility that this fix might be included in the November 2023 security patch, which could arrive as early as next week. It’s worth noting that Google’s timeline for these monthly updates has been somewhat flexible recently.
