According the the
Chinese tech/leak site mydrivers.com,
Meizu's next phone is expected to house a
fingerprint scanner much like the
iPhone 5s.
Meizu is currently at the
Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada where they recently announced that the
Meizu MX3 is coming to the United States. In the meantime,
rumors continue to swirl that they will be announcing an Ubuntu powered follow up that features a
fingerprint scanner.
The
fingerprint scanner rumor shouldn't be much of a surprise as the
Meizu CEO recently said it was the iPhone 5s' best feature. However, the Ubuntu
news is significant because it is the second rumor of a major
Chinese manufacturer
dropping Android in favor of another OS.
One thing is for sure, the
Meizu MX3 is
capable of running Ubuntu, and someone somewhere made it happen.
While rumors have been going wild on the internet about what Meizu's plans for the big show were, other than the MX3 to U.S. announcement, there hasn't been much. It appears that Meizu came to the show to gauge American consumer's reaction to the device, or otherwise they are simply waiting until all the hype dies down from the "big" (from an American perspective) companies.
We will be sure to update you if and when
Meizu breaks any further
news in or out of
CES.
